Out of the mouths of babes...

This is my first year growing my own, and my 3rd old has been involved from the outset - watching mummy & daddy being hurtled around the garden by the rotivator, helping dig in the compost and the "farmyard poo," planting etc etc He also helped pick all the peas, shell them and freeze them.

Yesterday, when I announced that we had finished the last of the homegrown frozen peas - my OH said - oh well, better go and buy some from Tescos, then.... Kiran turned around and said 'no Daddy we have to grow some more!!!!!!!!!!!!!' YES! I am so proud of him!!!!

Is it too late to plant some more??

Probably too late for this season, but then come October/November, along with broad beans, you could sow some for an early next year crop

We're growing veg for the first time too with a 4yr old and an 8yr old - its really refreshing to see them learn that not everything comes from Tescos! I'm soooo glad we decided to do this - we've put our names fown for an allottment now and the kids are looking forward to having their own patch! You can't lose - my 4 year old is eating loads that he wouldn't touch before just 'cos we've grown it ourselves!

So pleased to hear that your youngsters are enjoying it so much. I managed a couple of years of growing veg when our boys were young, but then going back to work and studying got in the way. My eldest (27) still remembers that time and is now looking for a house with a reasonable size garden to start growing veg. So even that short period was worth it and sowed the seeds so to speak. Now I'm looking forward to gardening with the grandchildren

I'm sure the reason I want to grow veg so much is because I remember helping my parents when I was little. We used to be allowed to camp in the garden, and I remember getting up after dark to eat carrots. LOL
It is something I will certainly do when I have kids.
