  • Yeah, I've been thinking more about who could be the new Superman too. It's the only thing cheering me up. And those tights

The thing is, I don't want to end it as a Germinator. I mean, I have a lot of questions I haven't even asked yet about Jerusalem artichokes, tubers in general and why my leychee seeds never get beyond sprouting when I plant them from supermarket leychees.

These and other questions may never get answered if these guys throw that switch.

Also . . think about this . . if they KNEW what was going to happen---really knew---then they wouldn't have to throw the switch at all because, well, they would know!

So, by reverse logic, they don't really know, do they? So all that stuff about "We've done our numbers and it won't happen" can't actually be correct, since if they knew what would happen for sure, there would be no point in experimenting at all, right?

    Sad, but probably true . . .

    • If Superman does appear tomorrow I hope the first thing he does is get rid of daytime TV with all those extras from "Deliverance" shouting about their problems and woes...

Well science is about testing theories. They don't really know what will happen until they test it. The theory is that a particle (boson) should exist that would explain why gravity is only a weak energy when all the others are strong (it still hurts when you fall over though). This particle is called a Higgs boson (named after a British scientist , Higgs not boson) and the collider is designed to identify it (along with some others). I don't know what they will do if they don't identify the particle; that was a lot of money spent otherwise.

ETA: it will happen at 0830 tomorrow morning, so you might get thrown out of bed.

          • I think andi&di probably has the right idea and a glass of wine would be better

Yeah, I know they have suggested that intimate knowledge of particle physics requires this one, but at the same time you have to wonder what has worried those Germans who are trying to obtain an injunction against it. I mean, I don't usually worry about science too much until Germans get nervous.

All the same, I think the glass of wine might be the answer . . . that and . . 42

              • Personally I blame the Vogons and if I should be a little late arriving at that rather nice restaurant (we're always a bit behind in the South West) please will someone order the Dish of the Day for me - perhaps a little shoulder?

Well (just in case they're wrong) it's been really nice meeting you folks! Cheers!

And if they're right....see you all tomorrow! (Well except Hey Wayne who will definitely be somewhere warmer!)

Thanks, tootles. I like yours too. We're up to our unmentionables in slugs so we could use something to get rid of them.

                  See you tomorrow---I hope!

                  • If elf and safety see this picture they will pull the plug on it - look at all those cables, pipes etc laying all over the floor - and those step ladders aren't installed correctly either - an accident waiting to happen - tut tut! I bet they haven't done a Risk Assessment either!! Then again this isn't the UK is it. It's only us that take a blind bit of notice of european legislation - but I'm not bitter!!!!!!!!
