Hi
My cats have a big box of cat toys but have given up buying them as the allotment seems to now provide all the amusement they need. Whenever I bring anything home from the allotment the cats give everything a thorough inspection and so far my vegetable basket has been raided for:
Runner beans - top choice - versatile and portable, idea for stuffing under rugs and having a great time fishing it out again.
Beetroot leaves, before I saw what they were up to, several leaves and stems had been wrenched off the beetroot and it wasn't till I saw one of them disappearing down the hall with one in tow that I realised what they were up to. Beetroot leaves are good for pouncing practice and carrying around, good tug of war potential too. If no beetroot leaves available then carrot foliage gets hoicked out of the kitchen compost bin and substituted.
Tomatoes, apples and potatoes make good missiles, good for rolling off kitchen counter on to poor unsuspecting feline below, have put a stop to this due to damage of my produce (and kitchen carpet).
Courgettes, good for bashing around, good claw purchase and the smaller the better for picking up and tossing around, one small one is made available by me to stop wholesale rummaging in the vegetable basket.
And all I can say is watch out when podding peas and broad beans...
Smallest cat did have a go at wopping a chilli around but soon gave up in disgust!
