  • What was/is your biggest fear

OK what or is your biggest FEAR in the garden?

mine-use to be seeing insects, hated them BUt ever since they ate all my cabbages NO MORE. If I spot one I'm in there catching, and flicking them off my plot...

I think it would have to be Serious Injury with Machinery! Lawnmower over the foot, Hedge trimming the fingers, Fork through the toes, that sort of thing!
Anything that involves pain, having to crawl to the house and ambulances. That worries me!

Spiders first, walking through webs and not knowing where the inhabitants are...down my back, in my hair? This involves a lot of jumping around and desperate flapping which brings on my second fear of slipping and falling through the greenhouse.
Life is too short for drama & petty things!
So laugh insanely, love truly and forgive quickly!

Arachnophobia is by far my worst fear I run, scream, hyperventilate and almost pass out through fear, next is Trypanophobia (fear of hypodermic needles) same reaction as above but I also have to be held down by the OH to have the injections or blood drawn, Mottephobia is my next I don't mind moths being still but I hate them as soon as they move or fly near me I just squeal and cover my head. I also suffer from Equinophobia as i was bitten by a horse as a child and since then can't be near horses or donkeys without being terrified.
My worst nightmare would a spider chasing me whilst riding a horse with needles in it free hands/legs with an army of moths under its control :-(

Me ? - scared of nothing - unless you include the wife
Don't like rats ( was bitten by three rats when I was 14) but not scared of them, just don't like 'em much.
In the future, what scares me the most is that my daughters will bring home a boy who is too much like I was at that age !!

                    Red ants at present.

A couple weeks ago I was down on my knees weeding out a new raised bed, My foot scraped away at a nest behind me. First I knew was as an army of them went up my left trouser leg and started to bite.

Had to run over to the shed stripping off as I went, I can tell you that wouldn't have been a pretty sight. I won't tell you some of the places they got to.

I brushed them off, turned my clothes inside out to get rid of them but some were still lurking in the seems.

I was itching for days and some of the bites came up quite big as well.
I am certain that the day my boat comes in, I'll be at the airport.

My first allotment was on a bit of an isolated site - and I didn't like being there completely alone. Better with a mobile phone.I'd try and arrange to be there at the same time as one of the other peeps.

In France... I'm concerned about snakes hiding amongst the boulders/walls....Oh...and Hornets...oh yes..and ticks munching away on me...

In England.....not a lot- perhaps needing to use my bucket in the shed when there are loads of peeps about!!!...not keen on earwigs for some reason either.

I'm glad I didn't read this thread before going to bed last night!!!!

Are there poisonous snakes in France then? Apart from Adders I suppose and are they more prolific than over here then?

Mine are large spiders, spiders that have big bulbous backs, funny though cause I haven't seen any biggies actually in the garden, probably because they are all living in the house, stables and hay barn

Sp*ders for me too I'm afraid. I get into a terrible state which I know is barmy! Nothing else bothers me at all really - no other bugs make me turn a hair (in this country - bit more cautious when we've been in Oz...)

I'm trying so hard to make myself better though and have bought a little sp*ider catcher and everything. Those big beasties though... Thing is, we have our little baby girl now and no way am I going to be responsible for passing on a phobia to her, so I've gotta get it sorted out!

Ants for me. Not a proper fear of the ants themselves, it's having them in unmentionable places. Yuck!!!

Amazingly I'm not actually scared of spiders, despite various run-ins.

-one ran over my lips and TONGUE when I was a teenager, yawning in bed.
-I put my arm straight into a web full of MILLIONS of hatchlings, retrieving a tennis ball from a conifer tree.
-as a toddler (apparently I was 2), I crawled after a strange cat into our coal scuttle and couldn't get out. I was absolutely covered in webs and spiders and my Mum had the lovely job of getting me out and she HATES spiders!

But no, definitely ants are the worst!
