  • The pain I go through for my allotment

I was told yesterday that a new load of chippings had been delivered down at the allotments.

As we have had a dry period , so I can get the car round to near my plots, I thought I'd take a day's holiday but there are already people off in my dept so it would be awkward swinging it. Well I already had a doctor's appointment this afternoon so said it would save disrupting a day by taking holiday instead of going early (at the employer's expense)

There were 4 massive piles of the stuff so I thought I'd go for it.

70 bags I've filled (a mixture of 80 & 150l bags), driven them round to the nearest point, about 50 meters away from the plots. Two bags at a time on the wheelbarrow, so that's 3500m in round trips, barrowing.

Now the reason I was going to see the doctor is that I've got 3 abcesses plus some lumps that have been evident for several months now.

It was painful shifting all these chippings and to be truthful I was near to tears at times but I'm an obstinate sod you see (well determined I tell my employer).

The effort has vented said abcesses ( a great relief).

Now I can't tell you where the abcesses were but a clue would be "exam for ice"
I am certain that the day my boat comes in, I'll be at the airport.

My sympathies!! Talking about pain for allotments, I suffered a very badly sprained wrist last Sunday. Wasn't even doing anything strenuous, just walking round there with grandson (3 and a half years old). Carrying lottie bag, digging fork, and bag of stuff to go onto compost heap - grandson suddenly decided to walk straight in front of me, I went a** over t**, landed on my right hand. Got up, very embarrassed, carried on to lottie and did an hour's work. That night the pain and swelling started!! It wouldn't be so bad but I'm right handed. It's the little things that are the most difficult. Try brushing your teeth or hair with the "wrong" hand.

Went to the doctor's and had to have the last of the rubbish drained out, literally brought tears to my eyes.

Was very concerned about the lumps though. Have got to go back this morning at 9 and he is going to ring the hospital for an emergency appointment, he did offer to get me in there last night but I really felt I wanted to come home at that time.

If there was ever a time that I felt I could do with a drink it was then but the medication I'm on prevents that.

Now call me a worrier or perseptive but it don't sound to good to me. Last time the doctor's sent me for an emergency appointment at the hospital, it turned out I'd had a heart attack and I was in Cardiac Care Unit for weeks.
I am certain that the day my boat comes in, I'll be at the airport.
