My only reason to clean is arriving in 3 hours
My mother-in-law. Don't get me wrong, I love her, but her house is always immaculate and mine, well, isn't.
As we live in a building site I don't think she will expect much anyway, but I have moved the tools out of the sitting room and swept up as much stone dust as I can. (I think it looks amazing anyway)
My cleaning habits seem to be fairly accepted now (mother-in-law no longer offers me handy hints on a streakfree shine for the windows) at a in-law family party last year, a cousin's new girlfriend asked me if I got my husband to help with the housework, when the brother-in-law's girlfriend said 'don't ask her, her place is carnage'. Harsh, but true.
I am starting to worry that when this place is finished - I might have to keep it tidy
(or not)Tx

My mum's caustic remark was once "I don't know how you can live like this." It's not that bad, honest - just piles of books, seed catalogues, quilting supplies, sheet music etc. You need to have your struff around you!Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

I tackled the porch today,(Andi did a great job of clearing the car last month!)~so the hall has now gained a few additional piles of stuff but maybe tommorrow they'll be moved to the next room!
I've booked friends in after school on Friday so have 2 days to get busy!!the fates lead him who will;him who won't they drag.

I still dust the skirting boards and the tops of the doors when my mum comes to stay!! She always used to comment that "you've got enough housework to do to keep you busy, why do you want a job / hobby etc". She's blind now though, bless her, and she's terminally ill too, so I do still do it out of respect for her, not for myself. My girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there

i keep my place mostly clean and mostly tidy
i keep myself busy, and it's easy to let the housework slip, but i do like the tidyness etc so i do what i can when i get a chance
it would be very easy for this place to turn into a messy bachelor pad, just me, my son and my dog here, we can (and do) do what we want when we want ...
but i always work on the basis that one day i'll meet a nice young lady and i don't want her to be disgusted or to think i'm a slob, so i've always got that as an incentive to keep the place clean and tidy - and yes, i did meet someone a few weeks back, but she did my head in so i'm single again .........

what gets you in the mood?......a phonecall from the landlord letting you know they'll be popping round for a cuppa over the weekend!!(they initially said saturday but I managed to buy a little extra time & made it sunday!!I was tempted to suggest we came to theirs, but decided that may really set alarm bells ringing!!!
Wish me luck!!the fates lead him who will;him who won't they drag.

I dont know if I actually like housework but after 22 years in the army it sort of gets ingrained into you.
The Ex Mme Leponge wasn't the cleanest and tidiest bless her, but it was always easier for me when I came home to ignore the mess and dirt, as on the rare occasions that I tried cleaning things, the remarks that "so you're saying I cant keep the house clean when your away" were more caustic than the soda she never used.
Now is just me and my dog, and we both keep the place clean and tidy, although there is always work ongoing (ask any French home owner) so its never spotless.
I never tidy up for when my kids or friends come, they've come to see me not my house. But if they want to do so, I never stop them!!!Bob Leponge

Mr Sheds is the untidiest person I know. Well, 3rd untidiest actually, but I don't live with those others.
I spent 6 hrs last week getting the house spotless. Within a day it was back to normal
So now I am just doing the bare necessities - clean up any mud (off my boots); clean up bird poo (from parrot); wash dishes. Anything else can wait.
I like having a 20 min burst of activity ... with a time limit, it doesn't seem like too big a chore, and you actually work harder knowing you're only doing it for 20 mins. Works for allsorts of things. All gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.
