Don't talk to me about kitchens. I could gladly throttle the f***wit who did mine. I ended up firing him and finishing it myself. I am so, so angry that people like this go out and do bodge jobs and then charge money. I now have to make some decorative bits to cover up the appalling stuff he's done, as I don't have the money to pay to have it done again. The plasterer was just as bad and was too lazy/thick to bond over the plasterboard screws before skimming, so now bits of plaster are falling off from the screw points. Both were recommended!!

Hope you get it sorted amicably, Jane. If he made the error, then he should pay for it. End of.

            Parted company with the carpenter

V good Nicos, made me chuckle!

Not good news - we have parted company. OH did the deed, I was making packed lunches.

Turns out the carpenter has let his insurance lapse as he was working for a large co that was paying it.... and hasn't renewed it. Bummer.

Price for panel is now £427. we got ours in the sale with extra discount. No longer applies as you have to spend over £1000.

OH told him he was not happy with the ammount he had done in a day! And that the quality wasn't good and also that he ahd obviously buthered the decor panel.

Carpenter said to take ther panel cost out of his wages yesterday - errrr that doesn't quite work! As we were paying him £130 a day.Carpenter obviously got the hump and took tools and vanished, muttering that he would sort something out.

Not heard from OH yet as he is trying to speak to the kitchen co and/or our insurance co.

            I feel bit sick.

So sorry, Jane. It seems that these days people just want the money without the work. You have all my sympathies.

Janeyo I am sorry, I really do hope you are able to get something sorted out.
Can you take it to the small claims court?
heck of a trouble, big hugs and warm wishes to you. I know how awful this sort of thing can make you feel. You kinda loose trust and faith in people.

It was a Wickes kitchen, Montreal, walnut veneer, looks bl**dy beautiful with the quartz worktops! I am so in love with it all, but it's somwhat taking the shine off now as uou can imagine.

I think we will have to take it further, that's a lot of money to lose. Any other panel wouldn't have been so bad but these things are monster expensive beasts!

janeyo - not heard any news from OH all day and might have to start biting fingernials soon, not done that for 20 years!

Damn, I have a few trade accounts but afraid I cant help you with Wickes. I'm guessing that it's a full height end panel right?

He knows he did wrong, that's why he did a shoot. I had a joiner that was making loads of mistakes run away last year. He managed to pack up all his stuff and scarper within 5 mins whilst I was working in the attic with the electrician. Came down to make us all a cupa and he was gone.

Phone call for a 'chat' with him first and see what happens?

OH is claiming on our house insurance for the new oanel. we managed to get it sale price.
The carpenter rang and said how bad he felt and has offered to pay the excess. (£100) So if he coughs up and considering we didn't pay him that's a result.

Don't wanna get nasty as he is family. OH is doing all the rest himself in the eveings as he doesn't trust the trade anymore. He has half laid the floor and ordered a new saw for the twiddly kitchen bits. He is doing a fab job.

It WILL get done eventually. In the meantime the doors are on and I am in a working kitchen - whoohoo!
