After all the stuff about Gordon Brown on the news Who would be your best PM from history?
Mine would be either Churchill or good old Maggie!!!!!!
The greatness comes not when things go always good for you,but the greatness comes when you are really tested, when you take, some knocks, some disappointments;because only if youv'e been in the deepest valley can you ever know how magnificent it is to be on the highest mountain.
I think politicians are all charlatans Cloud, and I have no respect for any of them. I won't be voting except to say I have no respect for any of these people.
From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.
Labour won a landslide victory in the 1945 general election and under Attlee formed the first majority Labour government, which assumed office during the Potsdam Conference. He was an effective head of a strong team of ministers that included Sir Stafford Cripps, Herbert Morrison, Aneurin Bevan, and Ernest Bevin. His government established the welfare state, incorporating the comprehensive scheme advocated in the Beveridge Report (1942), created the National Health Service, and nationalized many of the major British industries including coal, steel, the railways, and the Bank of England. Furthermore, Attlee presided over the granting of independence to India, Ceylon (Sri Lanka), and Burma, along with agreeing to the European Recovery Program and the accession of Britain to NATO.
Attlee was repeatedly underestimated during his career. He had determination and a fair measure of ability. In time he has come to be judged by many as one of the most effective British prime ministers, heading one of the most successful governments of the 20th century in spite of very adverse economic circumstances.
the OH was out of work for 4 1/2 years thanks to HER,ladyship,so yes,i go along with alice
Most politicians are a waste of good skin however some changed our country or our opportunities in a massive way. Share ownership (remember sid) and the ability to buy my house were two huge positive impacts "Her ladyship" had on my life so she gets my vote.
I must admit my politics are slightly to the right of Atilla the hun and very much blue in colour, HOWEVER, I feel the untimely loss of Labours John Smith possibly robbed us of the best potential PM this century.
i have thought for years, Jeremy Clarkson should be PM
Yes, definitely!!!! He doesn't give a s*** but gets on with the job. I think most of the others were / are just mouthpieces. But we're all entitled to our own opinions aren't we, that's what makes us democratic (I think)

I do feel that the Conservatives have a better understanding for what is required in the countryside & rural areas (Labour's spending record in rural areas is atrocious).
However, anyone who grew up in Sunderland (& surrounding areas) would consider the Thatcher government to be one of the worst periods in history, and the effects are still being disastrously felt to this day.
Despite her mistakes, Thatcher for me, too. I agree about John Smith. He seemed a genuinely nice bloke and my Mum was planning to switch her vote, but then he died.
The problem for me is the fact that Gordon Brown was not voted in by us the public.
When a prime minister leaves for whatever reason there should be a general election, a bit like America does where you vote for the candidate first. The only reason a deputy should stand in is because the pm can not perform his duties due to ill health or death.
