Oh, porridge is brilliant for lowering cholesterol.
I soak mine in water overnight with some sultanas for sweetness, then cook it with some milk in the morning. Super-fast.

how come? Is it because it's hard to know the difference?

Basically, saturated fat is the bad one that clogs up your arteries: found in cream, cheese & meat.

Another baddy is hydrogenated fat or oil, found in lots of ready meals and processed foods. It's gradually being banned. Avoid it at all costs.

            Good fats:
Monounsaturated fats: olive, peanut, almond and rapeseed oil. Really good for you.

Omega 3: tuna (fresh not tinned), kippers, sardines, salmon, mackerel, flax and rapeseed, eggs, nuts & seeds, hummous. Very good for you.

Polyunsaturated: corn & sunflower oil. OK for you, not quite as good as Mono.

I did this with Mr Sheds, who used to snack on 200g blocks of chocolate & cheese between meals ... he doesn't even miss them now.

Good luck mate - you'll have more energy if you ditch the cr@p food, and I'm sure Mrs Dobby will appreciate that

Oooh, please give the food away. I hate it when I see food going into the bin, when someone, somewhere, is starving and crying out for a meal of ANY quality! Take it to Age Concern or Sally Army.

Just wondered why you say 'not tinned' for tuna? Is it because some of it is preserved in brine?

Tuna only counts as an oily fish when it is fresh. This is because when it is canned the omega 3 oil levels are reduced ... so although canned (tinned) tuna is a healthy option it doesn’t have the same health benefits as fresh oily fish. How Much Oily Fish?

Tuna is only counted as an oily fish if it is fresh or frozen, as the tinned variety does have some oils, but not as much as the fresh one.Rich In Omega 3 | What Is Omega3?

Good point. I presume you're not ruling out canned tuna. Fresh tuna is one of my favourites but availability is (sadly)another matter.

In mice, a protein ... appeared to be switched on when the animals were given a high fat, high sugar diet.... once the protein was switched on, the mice started eating more

That sounds to me like: bad food makes you eat more. Not only are the mice eating bad food, but eating too much as well.
