I used to have a 'herbal remedies' book, and most of the spices that go in a curry are anti-indigestion remedies. They used to say that the spices were to cover the taste of 'off' meat, but I reckon they were to counteract the inevitable indigestion......
Heartburn has one of 2 causes, acid, or gas. Bi-carb, or the 'fizzy' remedies (ENO. Andrew's, etc) will tackle either kind, otherwise you need to know which you are sufering from.....
I seem to get the gassy sort these days. ANYTHING with bubbles has some chance of curing that (including champagne<g>).
For the acid kind, don't lie down too soon after a 'rich' meal (high-protein foods are bad, so is fat), eat earlier or rest 'sitting up' for a while. That is where the 'chemist remedies' come in, because they contain substances which chemically react with acids. More reliable to remove the cause.
was definitely the acid sort ..... erm combined with the gassy sort, and the nausea sort and the flipping painful sort ...... hadn't eaten anything since six oclock, had vegetable stir fry for tea and the activia yoghurt and a banana, and didn't go to bed till about one, but kept waking up in agony, with the whole of my oesophagus feeling like it was being ripped out....... that's why i can only think it was the yoghurt that's caused it, cos i had one thursday night too.
i did have cravings for pickled gherkins when i was pregnant ......at the time had bad heartburn, and thinking back, i got much less after the gherkins, than i did from the pepperoni pizzas (with 4 lots of pepperoni)
Lynda, there is a bug going round ...Felt really sick also. Pain, apart from in the stomach and upwards was really bad under my ribs
that's weird. I've had a pain in my ribs (like stitch) for a couple of weeks now, I feel nauseous and had a cold sweat too. Not like any bug I've had before but perhaps it's still brewing
All gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.
well either everything worked and i've now ended up with a load of gingerbread men that the birds will love (i really don't like ginger) and a drawer full of pills ..... or it was the activia or a bug, cos last night was wonderful, still didn't sleep much , but didn't wake up with heartburn

i was very sweaty the last couple of nights too, had to open the windows and sleep half covered with the duvet,
if you still have something after 2 weeks, i think a doctors visit is in order
I am also on Omeprazole for a Hiatus Hernia. Though I try to manage as long as possible not to take them and tend to put up with the heatburn as long as possible, I relent when it gets too bad, though the chemist did say this is not the way to take them. I also take tablets for irritable bowel so I rattle. I hate gaviscon tablets because the crumbs stick in your teeth. I just have a bottle of the original gaviscon by the bed and if it starts in the night I swig it out of the bottle.
Iceberg lettuce sets me off, white bread, white rice, apples .........
You do need to go to the docs to check it out properly. Sometimes if you take a tablet, like a painkiller, with not enough water it sticks on the way down and burns a sore in your stomach which can cause a lot of pain and take ages to clear up.
nope if theres one thing i know it definitely isn't is that lol ..... anyway i'm farrrrrrrr too young for that ........ i haven't finished causing PMT grief yet
