  • Opinions, suggestions most welcome...

Most of you may remember that I was trying to organise presnts for my husbands 40th last month. That is to say I wanted to ensure he didnt just put any money in the bank and it get swallowed up by bills. In the main I succeded; my family got him a sat nav (that he didnt want but has had alot of use already these past 4 weeks), his family are putting money in to get him a ladder (he has to just order it and his family will keep nagging till he does!) and he had gardening tools or vouchers from various other family and friends.

My neighbour had asked for a suggestion and I gave her a clipping from a garden magazine of a drill powered pump for £10 which I thought would be ideal. She didnt get around to getting it so he got the tenner with the clipping to indicate thats what he should put it towards. Now that tenner got paid in but I figured if I just went and got it (paying with the second card on his credit card) then he cannot complain. I thought it would be a nice surprise as long as its worth the money....

So I did think I would just check with you if you thought this was a good product or if you had any suggestions to the contrary. Hubbie is very thrifty not just with money but also with energy and water (we have 5 water butts and around 100 4 pint milk bottles filled with the excess water from them! I figured utilising the bath water could be our next step during periods of heat -not that we had much this summer though eh! I also thought it would make the transfer of water from a full butt to one not connected to any drainpipes easier for him as our drill is battery not mains.

The advert reads; This nifty device enables you to pump water from a water butt, bath or sink into a watering can to give you plants a guilt free drink. Its easy to use and just needs a hose and a hand held drill to pump up to 1,000 litres per hour.

    Draper drill-powered pump

I've got one you can have...PM me an address and I'll send it over.

We were going to freecycle it next month anyway.

It's not draper, it does pump but not from our deep well, which is why we tried it. You need to prime it with water first.

Couldn't find it on the link you gave Tammy but that's probably just me! Sounds like a good idea though, why not take up Zazen's offer & give one a try.
