Hello all, I need to know how to get the perfect seedling.... I seem to get a seedling to surface and then they become very thin and leggy, and when the best time to pot onto their very own pot...
Hello Helly, if your seedlings are thin and leggy then they are probably too warm and/or not getting enough light.
As for the best time to pot them on - well look at it this way -
When a seed germinates you see the green shoots emerging.
Usually a pair of leaves emerge - the seed leaves.
These leaves probably don't look like the true leaves of the plant.
At this stage the plant has no or very little root.
The plant then makes roots.
Next comes the true leaves.
Depending on the plant when there are 1 or 2 pairs of true leaves the plant will have good enough roots to transplant.
Once the plant starts to grow the seed leaves will turn yellow and die off. Nothing to worry about there.
I hope this helps.
From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.
if you only have a window sill available for germinating your seedlings, cover a piece of cardboard (length and depth of your seed tray) in tin foil and place it in the tray, on the opposite side to the window. This will reflect the light back acroos your seedlings to the area where they are furthest from the light.
I started of fresh parsely seeds inmy electric propator a week today by th Tue they had germinated ,I then took them out of propagator and left in my unheated greenhouse to grow on .
And they are now ready to plant into small pots to grow on before I plant out.
I only use elect propagtor to start off with a bit of extra bottom heat.
