  • Wellies for fat calves!

No not the moo kind of calves, my leg type of calves....(steady! )

Having gone to view my potential plot in a pair of wellies that quite frankly ended up wrinkled badly at the ankles where they couldn't get past my calf muscles (muscles is a general term!) I could really do with finding a pair that can cope with the wider than average calf.

Anyone else have a similar problem or what do you wear on your feet when at the lottie?

I've seen peeps wearing muckers which you'd normally wear for ...wait for it....mucking out horses!
They are waterproof and go up about 1/3 of the calf. And have a good tread to prevent skidding about in the mud.
Dirt cheap at Decathlon ( ?£7)- through to £30+ at equestrian stockists.Tend to be lined too for those cold and frosty mornings

      Have you tried mens wellies??
VERY expensive are the Le Chameau wellie range which come in different calf widths.

Hi ther lumpyjumper. Although wellies come in many different designs, including some very expensive leather or neoprene lined ones, there are basically only two styles. The hunter (tight on calf so doesn't come off in mud) or the argyle (looser on calf). Most of the wellies sold as 'work wear' will be argyles, any of these should fit the bill.

Although I do wear wellies occasionally when on the lottie, I find a good pair of stout boots much more comfortable. I'd reccomend trying the boots, at least they won't be tight on the calf.

Hope that is of some help. Some one may well be along soon that can reccomend actual brand names of wellies that you might want to try.

I have the same prob with large calves, and get round it by using wellie shoes instead. I love my pink ones!

Other grapes type faster than me. I knew people would be able to give the names of particular brands.

Just you!!!But I'll admit to being just a little disappointed at the lack of comical picture of a fat calf in wellies!

BTW!I find wellies totally uncomfy & hopeless for digging in(each to their own I gues!).But I prefer steel toe capped boots(went through my toe with a garden fork as a kid,so feel I can't be over cautious!)

I also had this image of a friesian calf in little pink wellies, Most disappointed Mind you I did see one about a pig in wellies cause she didn't like mud was very funny.

I have a few types, my Hunters as I can get any amount of socks, jeans or joddies in there if very wet or muddy, my Jodhpur boots I practically live in, and for posh wellies I have a pair of DuBarrys that I won in a magazine competition a while back - but they only make an appearance to the odd country show . Muckers are good but the velcro can get a bit grotty on them after a time and come loose after they've endured a winter or two.

As there is popular demand for moo cows in wellies, this link has a picture called Glastonbury Cows which should do the trick!!! ENJOY!

I was thinking 'our' Wellie was fattening calves to eat or something Piskie so it wasn't just you!
The link doesn't seem to work lumpyjumper, I think you've got an extra http// at the front, you have to delete the one already in the box sometimes.

I've tried to put it in for you again but don't know if it works because my 'search engine's' gone down for some reason! I'd like to see a picture of a cow in a pair of wellies too!

I've given up on wellies. Make my feet sweat and don't fit my legs (fat calves too). I wear leather walking boots with nice thick soles.
