  • A Wednesday smile thread

With all the doom and gloom out in the world and recent sad threads of late, I thought it might be an idea to start a regular thread where people can view/post if they're feeling a little low.

It's not a new idea - I've seen similar threads on other forums, but it might just be a welcome tonic to some on here.

I thought I'd start with a "one thing that's made you smile today" kinda thing.

For me, it was thinking about names for my unborn child, and the notion dawning on me that I'm going to be a dad in about 15 weeks time.

    What's made you smile today?

Catching the 15 month old who was meant to be being supervised by daddy with the EMPTY cotton buds pot - and about 200 of them strewn about his bedroom!
The thing that made me smile was the guilty look on his face as he was caught red-handed.

I had a really low day on Monday - one bad thing after another that day. Weather was awful too, so instead of moping around like I wanted to, I cracked on with the ironing.
I felt so much better on Tues, the sun was out ~ and the ironing had all been done!

Not been feeling good myself either recently with one thing & another but today I had a photo shown as the 'weather' picture on the BBC local news at lunchtime, the sun has been shining & I've managed to get out in the garden & plant a blackcurrant bush & some bulbs so not feeling so bad now!

O.K it happened on Sunday~but I'm still smiling about it today!!We had our annual visit from the landlord at the w/e & I spent days panicking they were either gonna tell us they were selling up or increase the rent by hideous amounts.~Due to the credit crunch(which is hitting them also!)they've decided to keep the rent as it was,Also they have no intention of selling as they want to move back when their kiddies have flown the nest(as they're just 4 & newborn I think we have a while yet!!)
Also smiling after a very positive parents night at DD's school~she's working way above national expectations in all subjects,& had a meeting at nursery re the boys speech & his teacher is so amazed at how well he's done over the last 6 months(going from only using the "d" sound in speech to now being understandable 98% of the time)
And if I'm allowed one final thing? The sun's been shining all day!!

                Nice thread Wayne something different!

I knew there was a reason that I liked football on the TV! It gave me the kick up the bum I needed to crack on with the decorating after I got home from work last night!

I'm trying to tart up the whole house before Christmas, the poor old place has ben looking a bit sad last few years! It's hard keeping it together and working full time and having no partner to help! I will be getting new carpets all round as a prezy from my daughter and her fella love them! I'm about half way there now!

So... with the TV talking to itself in the other room, one thing lead to another, I kept saying to myself I will just do this bit, and that bit too, then stop for the nite! Before I knew it, it was 12.30 in the morning! By one am I had washed up the paint tray, roller, and brushes and was looking around my shiney, newley painted dining room, thinking to myself that looks soooo much better than it did when I started! Now I can go and watch my East enders that was recording then go to bed knowing that another good job was done!

Next comes the living room, will be wallpaper striping at the weekend againe!

Nice thread! I smiled a lot today (face now aching!) Some friends I used to work with came round for lunch, together with our peri hairdresser. I now have a new hair style! Rather pleased with it! Sorry, can't take a pic of myself, it's like licking your own elbow.

Then daughter, son-in -law and the kiddie-winkles came. Big smiles from Gran!

Things will go downhill a bit after tea - back to scraping walls.

Been at it a month already Jan. We sort of tittivated the house when we moved in and did the bathroom, kitchen, living room, dining room and our bedroom fairly thoroughly. Now, 9 years on, the two other bedrooms and the hall stairs and landing (massive area with 9 doors leading from it!) all need doing. Having ancient central heating boiler replaced with greener model, laminate flooring in bedrooms and oak flooring in living room and dining room, AND a bedroom ceiling re-boarding. Seems interminable. However, I am keeping at it because I can't start me hen house till the people house it finished!

It was today in 3rd period, we were in H.E (home economics), we were designing our Christmas cushion, mine is green with two elves and Rudolph on it. It was really cold outside and we were sitting all cosy and nice, and our teacher puts on some christmas music. It was just nice - that made me smile

P.S HW i really love the idea of the thread

I had a proper belly laugh today when my ex-manager made a numpty out of himself in front of the client.

I'm not usually a cruel person (I'm just glad he's not my manager any more!)

I've had bad news recently and have found it kinda hard to smile, but did earlier when I'd finished rearranging and clearing out pickle's room. She loves it and it was nice to see her so pleased.
