Pure mango butter, cocoa butter and shea butter are all excellent for damaged skin, but they're quite expensive & not easy to find
Don't do the guilt thing to yourself Di, over anything!! It's far too easy to get caught in a downward spiral that way, as we well know What's done is done, your kids love you, and you do your best to deal with the here & now, not hark back to what you could possibly have done differently in the past!
    ((((Hugs)))) honey, you're doing great

Poor little soul, he must wonder what's hit him with all the bites, itching etc. You're doing the right thing in keeping going back to the doctors & also querying the dose. Hope he's feeling better soon (& you are too!)

Thanks again guys for help & support.Much as I hated popping them into his system he's had his 1st dose of steroids & he'll have more over the next 4 days,(at least it's only very short-term)~don't know if it's them that have sent him slightly loopy or the fact I kept him of nursery & the energy's got to come out!!
I had kinesiology in the past, totally blows your mind how accurate it is(mine was more for "things of the mind",but can imagine it working as well at detecting physical problems also.My friend is a practitioner so will maybe give her a bell.
I'm hoping that by Monday the steroids will have cleared the majority of it & we'll continue avoiding dairy for a while to see if it makes a difference,I was also googling & came across dietery advice saying it's not just about omitting the trigger foods but also increasing foods beneficial to the gut~so along with all your advice(all of which I'm grateful & will look into)I think I have a busy time ahead!!The good thing is that he's totally happy to go along with it~each morning we get "I don't really like dirty milk"(soya sounding like soil...)but he still eats it & says he doesn't want the normal stuff!I know from personal experience it takes a while to aquire a taste for it,but hopefully he will.
Well before it becomes another essay of waffle...!!cheers,x

If you do want to make some lotions etc to help with excema... Helen at Fresholi sells the butters (mango, shea, cocoa etc) as well as other ingredients and the information pages and forum there are very helpful.

When my daughter was little the doctor sent her to a specialaist for excema. When we, that is myself my husband and our daughter went in she sarcastically said ' I see you have brought the whole family ( I should have said no there's 4 more at home ' ) she then went on to say what she wouldnt be able to do career wise to a three year old and listed a whole list of jobs she couldnt do, I was livid and said she will do whatever she wants to do and will overcome any thing that stands in her way. She made me feel so little but I so wanted to smack her one and I am not a violent person at all. My daughter now 12 years old only has slight excema now and eats and drinks anything and everything with no side effects.
Never feel guilty at taking children to the doctors, or going yourself, I must have the best doctor there is as he never makes me feel guilty and he takes his time thats why I never mind waiting ages as It could be me in there needing his time.

Well,we're now back from our follow up trip, the doc is pleased(as am I!!)as to how well his skin responded to the steroids(although still very dry it's clear of exzema). Also I seem to have struck gold with a doc that's totally supportive of me wanting to avoid excessive use of chemical based creams! He agrees to keeping off dairy for a while longer to see if it makes a difference & thinks trying a natural butter/oil is a good way forward, but has also armed me with some weak strength(1%)steroid cream, just in case of another outbreak. He wants to see him again in a couple of weeks just to ensure we stay on top of it.
Thanks again everyone for your replies, support & suggestions!xx
