  • What cheers you up?

After a good start, seeing my daughter at her harvest festival this morning, I started a downward spiral that I couldnt seem to stop. It started with me feeling left out, as my friend was too busy to chat as she was surrounded by her family who had come to watch her son in the service. I then, for company decided to visit a lady who is not in the best of health, albeit she always has a smile on her face, but I came away feeling pretty helpless. It then seemed whoever I rang was engaged, too busy to chat etc.

However after feeling downright miserable this afternoon I now have a big grin on my face following a lovely fun bubble bath with my two kids. They insisted on keeping putting bubbles on their heads, being santa, polar bear etc, then sceaming of course when it got in their eyes! They had a whale of a time but cried when nasty Mummy said it was time for us all to get out. Their tears soon turned into sceams of laughter when that spoil sport Mummy tuned into the towel monster, trying to gobble up their hair. Darling son is now in bed, having had a story read to him by my daughter (only 5!) and she is now sat at my feet drawing a happy harvest picture for Daddy after the one she did me cheered me up no end! I feel very happy, very blessed and very relaxed tonight - I am very lucky!

What never fails to cheer you up?

Yes I know, a bit 'catty',

The other thing I do is visit youse guys, sometimes to realise how lucky I am!!

I'm pleased your day has turned out well in the end. Being with the kids always cheers me up too - although now it's Grandkids. My Grandson is coming to stay for the weekend and I love bathing him, there's something so special about the fun of bath-time. We'll probably take him out for a few hours on Saturday, probably to the children's farm as he's at the age where he loves that, but we need to shop for our Granddaughter's birthday present too as she will be 1 on Sunday so I'm sure I won't get out of Toys R Us without something for him as well. I love all my grandchildren, but I get on especially well with him as he enjoys the lottie, and will happily sit beside me and draw if I decide to paint and he even enjoys trips to the garden centre, looking at the flowers and plants. Yep, the prospect of a weekend with him is making me smile already.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

the dog does silly things to cheer me up, she just has that knack, a cuddle off the cats, son coming home with a bag of washing demanding food, harvesting the first and maybe only veg off each plant, waking up in the morning with a cat sat on my head ....... and then the absolute winners ...... a bunch of flowers and some choccies

My kiddies pretty much always manage to bring a smile! My Boy asking me if his spiderman costume is made of dairy was a good one! Also most nights they like to have a joke telling session!~along the lines of "why did the cow cross the road"~"to get to the other side"...Why did the chicken cross the road?"~"cos it's bum was on fire"(?)..."Why did the chewing gum cross the road?"~"because it was stuck to the chickens foot".
Pretty much always the same jokes, night in night out but they never fail!!
the fates lead him who will;him who won't they drag.

Finedon.D - what cheered me up is your post. It's been a cr@p day - nothing major, just burning things, dropping a couple of things which broke (and had to be cleaned up), that kind of thing.

Reading about your family and the 'uplift' (emotional) they brought you had a great effect on me too. My children are adults now and I've two grandchildren. Your message brought me back (especially the story-reading and your daughter's picture); while we bring up our children, we are making memories for them and yours will have good memories of today/tonight - what a lovely gift.

Me too. I started reading this thread feeling distinctly grumpy, got a day and a half ahead of me at work, we're doing up the house so I'm sitting here looking at bare brickwork and trying to ignore the layer of white plaster dust covering everything, got no money and another week before pay day, blah blah blah

Does it really matter? No. We've got a roof over our heads, we love each other, and it's nearly the weekend. In about half an hour it will be time to open the pop hole on the hen coop and let my gorgeous girls out.

Thanks for reminding me what's important

Well you guys - reading the posts on this thread since I went to bed (early again! - whats wrong with me these days?!) has reinforced my smile this morning as I look forward to bunking off (Friday meant to be a work day) and going out for lunch with my lovely grandparents!

I almost panicked at first that I couldnt get on-line before I went - need my regular fix of grapes gossip as it keeps me going through good times and the bad. I hadnt wanted to come on here yesterday afternoon for cheering up, as you have all done so much already but a certain wonderful grape reminded me of how great all the grapes are, so as soon as I had an inkling of getting cheered up I posted about it because I knew you guys would finish off the cheering up process - and you didnt even realise it! - did you?! - thank you all! - from the bottom of my heart.
