nah, i think it must be obvious to them by now that so many comments from around the country must involve a forum somewhere.

I did think of mentioning the site, but wasn't sure that that wouldn't be frowned upon here, so left it to see if someone else does

and a good one, but like you i wasn't sure how it would sit with the site owners, after all its the members that are showing support, not the site 'officially'.
i think what we are doing for now is plenty at the moment, and if we step it up with emails next week we can keep pressure on.
the other thing is to make this go viral ie: if any of you belong to other forum sites of similar interest, post a link to the newspaper article there, also any other site that you belong to on mental health maybe? anything that can be loosely linked to the subject, also use the digg link on the article if you are a 'digger'

I know tricky mentioned he had had an 'idea' in another thread involving a video site, I hope he is considering videoing the damage done with maybe a commentary, then we could consider putting it on youtube.

I know this all sounds a bit radical, but I have been involved in internet activism for a while on several subjects, and i kinda know how its done

It wouldn't be unsurprising that a gardening forum is upset about this...Tricky is a legit member of the forum - but if you do bad things in this world and expect to get away with it - esp in the name of local government - then don't be surprised if a rally cry goes round for justice.

I wouldn't mention this site on there though - and not all the responses have come from here.

quite true, its actually heartening to see that there are other replies on there than ours.

when we get the list of emails sorted on monday, i shall see if the comments section allows links, and maybe list a few of them on there as well for those members of the public that have been kind enough to support tricky there.

i think it's a good thing that people all over the country are outraged .... if it was just a few people from up the road, no one would have noticed .... i agree though post wherever you can

nah, the story is way too small for them to pick up, especially at the moment with the USA elections and the credit crunch etc.

however, there is nothing to stop anyone contacting other local papers and asking them if they are aware of the original story and the response to it, that might get them to pick it up.

sent an email to the editor:

Dear Sir,
I read with interest your article both online and in the Nov 4th edition of the Scunthorpe Telegraph.
Mr Baxter is a well respested member of our online gardening community and we were apalled to discover the councils actions towards him.
As you will no doubt have seen this has prompted numerous comments in the online section, both from locals, and others all over the country asking if this has been resolved in a acceptable manner. So far there has been no further comment from the council other than their original statement to you, which is considered by most to be entirely unsatisfactory.
I would therefore be interested to know if your paper intend to do a follow up piece on this issue, especially as it seems Mr Baxter is not the only person on that allotment site who appears to have been treated in such a cavalier manner?
A reply would be appreciated as we intend to take the matter further, and would appreciate the support of your newspaper seeing as you originally were so kind as to hightlight the matter.
