CAD for beginners/idiots

I have spent too long this morning wrestling with TurboCAD. I am not a pro so am sick of becoming unstuck!
I have to produce fairly accurate drawings of the house for the electicity people before they will pass the electrics and give us a proper supply.
Does anyone have any idea what I can use instead of CAD? Even something like the old style paint program that used to come as standard on most computers (with the ability to measure and add dimensions) would probably do the job.
Help, my brain is going squiffy (or it could have been already)

photoshop or firworks will do the job in you have them, and yes you should have paint on there somewhere, it still comes as standard even with vista.
CAD are quite complicated to use, and paint might not have enough bells and whistles for what you want to do, although it will do straight/curvy lines and blocks of colour etc.
paint will be under assessories in you programmes list somewhere on the start bar.

Sadly, I can't think of anything for windows, but if you happen to use linux, you could use xfig. Can produce quite complex diagrams quite easily.

I have never used it but a chap I was speaking to last week swears by MS Vizio which in his opinion is every bit as good as CAD but is much easier to use. I have no idea about these things though, just passing on what he told me.

Hi, I use Visio at work at it's pretty easy. Not sure how much it costs to install though as I dont' think it's standard.

Google sketchup might be OK for you and it's free

It's worth a look at Google's own product

Lots of advice and easy to learn

MS Visio is also very good. I'd give Sketchup a try first though to see if it can do what you want.
