Worlds most expensive Tomatoes !!

Well,now that my toms have all finished I have had to resort to buying some from our local shop.

Have a look at the price

Should have been £1.99 for 7-8 very small ones that don't even weigh half a pound with all the pack and stalks.

At that rate a single one of my tom plants this year would have had about £50 worth of fruit on it !!

Rip off Britain !! (I only paid 38p though and thought that was dear )

Roll on next years growing season.

sickening really, people just see the flash 'name' label, and the fact that 'on the vine is cool' , they are just tomatoes, and still don't taste as nice as homegrown.

My tomatoes:

Large garden pot - £2.50
Multipurpose compost - £3.00
Fertilizer and water retainer - £1.00
Tomato cage and poles - £3.00

That takes me to £9.50 for four sets of cherry tomatoes, not to mention all the hours work and watering to maintain them.

I'd have to even admit I've had better tasting ones from Tesco's.. hehe.. but there is some simple pleasures money can't buy.

Sorry if I sound a bit, y'know, snobby, but I don't buy tomatoes out of season. We do without until summer, and eat whatever's on the lotty instead. Same goes for strawberries.

Ahha, someone after my own heart, OH was trying to buy strawberries the other day in A**a, until I put a stop to that, bland foul tasting rubbish out of season.

I have to keep telling DD that we only buy strawbs in summertime - but the supermarket has a ploy of putting them beside the entry door right in her way!! Grrr!!

I do buy toms all year though, as I eat a lot of them in salad for lunches. Usually get the common or garden variety though in winter.......

When you do the maths it is quite scary. At 2.99 for a 200g punnet of raspberries I had about £300 worth from 20 canes. Not that I'd ever actually have bought that many.
