  • Premium Bonds

Was going through the filing cabinet the other day and came across my Premium Bonds.

Now I've not got loads but I have had some since July 1958 and never won a thing in 50 years.

Am I just unlucky or have any of you had some for years without any luck as well?
I am certain that the day my boat comes in, I'll be at the airport.

I've had some since 1957 not bought since 1977.
    Had 3 wins (1x£25 & 2x £50)

I had one win of £25 years ago nothing since. I found one beloning to my sister ( who died last year ) the other day and I should send it back or whatever but as its only a pound does it matter if I dont ?

I was given £20 when I was born. In the (nearly) thirty years they've won £50 twice the most recent earlier this year. I think thats very lucky my sister who is almost the same age has the same and she's won nowt!! Ha ha!!

I've got 2 x£1 Premium Bonds from 1958- and no they've never won!!
More recent ones have though....maybe it's the fact that they are single numbers than a block of numbers????
I understand that the smallest Bond you can now buy is £100

How do you know you haven't won, have you kept them upto date with where you are, or can you go online and check your numbers these days?

Excuse my ignorance as I have some myself, but don't really know what I'm supposed to do with them, other than file them away for safe keeping!

Just goes to show ... they aren't a good investment, and not even a particularly good gamble. National Lottey has better odds doesn't it?

Well maybe, but you don't get to keep the £1 with the lottery do you.

I keep meaning to get some(never seem to have £100 going spare tho'!)
I know the odds aren't great but there's still the excited anticipation that maybe...one day!!

I had some bought for me when I was born, just odd £1 ones but never had a sniff of a win & I've kept my address updated with them (well you never know!)

The national lottery is a 1 in 54 chance of winning any prize (usually £10).
Premium bonds are a 1 in 24,000 chance of winning (usually £50) with each £1 bond.
I know the chances of winning the lottery jackpot are 14 million to one. No idea how that compares with winning one of the 2 x £1 million monthly prizes with the Premium Bonds.
But as has already been said, you get to keep your stake. So if you have the max holding of £30,000 then you are more or less guaranteed to win at least £50 each month. And you can cash them in at any time.

All you gamble is what you would have earned in interest (from a bank that could go bust any day soon), you get on average about a 2% return a year (I think) and there is that chance you could win a big prize

I have nowhere near the limit but have won £50 for the last 3 months on the trot.

Me too - nowhere near the limit, but checked online today and there is another £50. Steady, yes, huge profits, no - but a little bit of excitement every month just in case. And I know the money is there if I need it.
