I've never quite understood the need to abbreviate on a forum, isn't it just being too lazy to type? It arose from texting where there was a need to keep the number of characters down. Now all it does it cause confusion. CMOF

I'm glad I'm over 40 and only have to worry about speaking and writing one language properly.
Or put another way, I is only gonna talk one language, innit?
I'm sad enough to put apostrophes in my text messages

(old fashioned is fab)
Just think if that catches on how many teenagers will be utterly bewildered but will pretend to look all-knowing, but we'll know better

We've had a thread about this before, most people were quite strong about which side of the fence they sat on and either felt it was perfectly OK to post "c u l&r" type messages as it was just a development of language or that it was downright lazy and excluded some of the forum members. I'm OK with a certain about of appreviation but if people use too many then it takes too long to understand the bloomin' message so I give up and read another post.
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I'm OK with abbreviations in texts and on forums but
not in the office. We had a temp in for a few days and she included text abbreviations in her messages for people and in her memo's and letters.
She couldn't see what the problem was and blamed her school for not teaching her properly about office expectations.

even my kids are only allowed to use msn on the strict understanding they do NOT use text talk, and as I check their logs daily, they have found out i mean it, having had one or two week long bans for breaking the rule.Last edited by BrideXIII; 09-11-2008, 11:14 PM.Vive Le Revolution!!!'Lets just stick it in, and see what happens?'Cigarette FREE since 07-01-09
