  • Oh why didn't I ...

    ...

    buy a frost-free fridge freezer?

I hate defrosting the bl**dy thing, but I've gotta do it now as I can't get the drawers shut! Oh and just to make things more annoying I've stood the fridge stuff outside in the cold - only its bright sunshine!

Still I'm determined to have lots of space in the freezer to pack full of M&S xmas party food!!!

I'm with you there, Small Blue Planet - I hate defrosting and it seems to need doing too quickly.

Am doing my best to get rich and buy a really nice frost-free one - buying lottery tickets.

I use a hairdryer to melt the ice quick Don't know if it's a good thing to do - water + electricity etc, but it's always worked for me. Can do my freezer in about half an hour

Bowls of hot water on the shelves do it too. And if you wrap the food in layers of newspaper it helps to keep it frozen.

I am lucky that I have two freezers, one upright one in the dinning room but it could give up at any time and one chest freezer in the cellar for emergancies kept switched on and keeps the ice packs ready for summer !!! also put spare stuff in there.

I'm with Maureen on this one, the hairdryer always worked a treat for me (keep it well away from the water though!!!). I say 'worked' as when my freezer conked out two years ago I bought *skips* a frost free one. You never know Smallblueplanet, you may get one one day (not that anyone wants to have their freezer break down - esp at this time of year, christmas coming an' all that).

I got my brothers fridge/freezer when he moved a couple of years ago, its a frost-free one, its brilliant, no more defrosting for me! A job I used to hate. Self-cleaning oven would be great, but unless I win the lotto not much chance of that!

I don't know how you do it. We've never owned anything but frost-free fridge freezers.

                You have my sympathies.

Have you tried putting the fridge freezer in the sunshine?

Hair dryer - and put a towel in the bottom to catch the water as it melts.

That's a point - why can't you use car windscreen de-icer and spray that on?

                          Probably because it's blue.

Would a salt water solution work you think?

Well, you're going to clean it off anyway, aren't you. Good idea about the salt solution. Can you have a go with it and tell us if it works, SBP?
