Real men don't use tissues

I married Snowdrop 15 years ago, for 15 years I have been lovingly ironing crisp white hankies for him .... a couple days ago I said 'why don't you use tissues like most people then I wouldn't have to wash and iron these hankies?'

Snowdrop says 'real men don't use tissues' and 'a man must be able to pull out a freshly pressed hankie when taking parade'....speechless, that's what I was....but I'm ok now

HaHa, Its the only time I remember my gran getting angry at me,
I was about 10 and was ironing grandad's hankies, she would let me do these after she'd finished the ironing and had unplugged the iron so I didn't burn myself, I used it whilst it was cooling sown but hot enough for hankies, I decided it wasn't hot enough and plugged it back in, she came into kitchen, saw the steam, plugged the plug, slapped the back of legs, and told me off, she was more upset than me afterwards. She'd just got such a fright seeing me using the hot iron!!

Having received many hankies over the years and having never used one, I can't comment. I see a hanky as a complete waste of extra cloth, after all what are sleeves for?

We do it cos the sleeves normally get washed more oten than a hanky, yuck!!

not in this house, he uses a fresh one every day and if he is going to a meeting with top brass he will change it and sometimes they are never used but still they get washed and pressed

And dear Lynda, a man in uniform has certain standards to uphold, a shiny sleeve doesn't help with promotion ya'nar

........and there I was about to say how many horrid memories came back of my mum boiling a weeks worth of my dads hankies,something I never have any intention of doing for Andi!!!....but now....seems like a far more "pleasant"(?)option!!!

My dear old Dad always had a Hankie protruding from his top pocket in a double triangle!

From what I remember you used to be able to buy jackets with the hankies ready stitched into the top pocket?

The only hankie I've ever worn was when I was playing cowboys and indians as a kid and I had it over my mouth like Rowdy Yates

it drives my mum wild..dad says tissues dont feel the same , tissues are unhygenic (cant work that one out myself) , tissues look more profesional ( he's retired) , tiisues leave bits everywhere (eh) she has had to iron them for the last 40 odd years (dad says they feel better ironed)
me well my bloke uses kitchen roll !!!
