So they jolly well should - do they know that - when you actually use veg - sometimes you chop it up anyway. Muppets. Let the buyer decide what they chuffing well want to buy.

Didn't Tesco's have a tv ad not so very long ago with Timothy Spall doing the voice-over? It was about their mushrooms, "ugly as sin but who cares, it's going into a pie anyway" or words to that effect. I don't care what shape or size my veggies are, it's the taste (and the cost if I have to buy) that matters to me most. "Perfection" must come at a price surely

it does come at a price, and its the supermarkets that set this.
the thing that annoys me, although i voted/signed, is that sainsburys/tescos/asda/etc etc are resposible for this in the first place, they are the ones that only BUY perfect veg, because the better presented stuff is, the more they sell, same with lack of variety, they only stock what appeals visually, look at apples and potato varieties available.
people have been complaining for years about this, but now its come back to bite THEM in the proverbial, they want our help??

slightly grubby feeling of being used, even though its in a good cause.

I really really think we should all kick the EU into touch. Jobsworths in this country are too narrow minded to do as the other europeans do - ignore most of eu regs.

The EU costs this country more money than any other member. And for the last number of donkey's years EU accounts haven't been signed off by auditors because of massive 'inaccuracies' - otherwise known as fraudulent claims.

It was on You and Yours on Radio 4 (Fogey channel!) but I had to go out to my Ma's while her gas maintenance man came - she's deaf as a post and can't hear him. She fussed the poor devil to death - did he want the light on - did he want the curtain drawn/undrawn - did he want a drink - did he want a biscuit - did he need table/chair/airer moved. Poor bloke!
So I don't know what they said but the implication was that there was a rethink. The search for perfection has led to some really bland and boring stuff on the market.

I've just read it's been scrapped - and watched a news item where the [I presume] tesco/sainsbury's guy said they will be offering misshapen veg at a cheaper price - so if you are using veg for cooking then you can save money.

I know we grow our own here...but I do actually use my veg for cooking so tally ho.

Anyone with any other uses for veg?

                          ooh you lil stirrer you
how could you even GO there knowing Lynda and I are about?

glad to hear its been scrapped though, it DOES effect us even though we grow our own, if we can get people away from the obsession that food has to look perfect, more of them might be tempted to try growing some.

lets just hope that this is not just a publicity stunt on sainsbury's part, and that they continue to offer this produce at an affordable price for those less able.
the government continues to pressure us to eat our '5 a day' , now make it affordable to do that, for everyone.

I think the rules are going to be scrapped for all but 10 fruit & veg. items including tomatoes & bananas which will still have to be a certain size & shape. Some items of these will still be able to be sold if not perfect but must be labelled specially.

This is not just a tomato...this is a lumpy bumpy full flavoured lush bush tomato???
