During a 3 mile journey home tonight at dusk, I counted 13 vehicles with no lights on, and a further 8 with only side lights or fog lights on.

Is the whole country on Valium or what? Put yer lights on

Maybe they're in hiding! Maybe they're saving energy! Maybe they're wearing a head torch and therefore feel that they don't require any further lighting! Or...maybe they are all pillocks!!!!

I know which option I'd go for! Nothing worse than seeing someone driving along with no lights on (usually these idiots drive a black, silver or blue car as well...which makes it near impossible to see them!)

Nearly had an accident on Saturday thanks to numptey with no lights, at dusk no! Pitch black, about 9.30pm and in heavy, heavy downpour!!

My son was driving us home through country roads the other day only having picked his first car up a couple of days earlier, we pulled in to let a car pass and just as he was about to pull away their was a bloody big tractor with a hay bale aloft no lights on we only just saw him in time. It was pitch dark.

Ok TS, count me in as one of the ones that moan about cyclists (even though I like to ride mine now and again). I've probably had as many near misses with cyclists as you have with cars!
Mainly kids on BMX's I must admit, darting across dual carraiageways and suchlike, without any lights on!
Some of the older cyclists travelling home from work seem to think that if they wear fluorecent clothing they don't need lights...........how wrong can they be.
Whatever happened to front lights on bikes that actually showed you where you were going rather than a geen flashing LED thats hardly noticeable?

I'm not getting dragged into this one ...
but ~ LEDs are far more visible than the old-style lights. And the batteries are less prone to fail mid-journey. (I have 2 at the front, 2 at the back = lit up like a Xmas tree I am) Having said that, all my worst near-misses have been in broad daylight. Folks just don't look.

Anyone driving on sidelights is committing an offence (unless the rules have changed) because by putting lights on at all, they are admitting that they believe lights are needed, and sidelights are inadequate for driving. The other 'never-get-caught' offence is driving with only ONE light working, leading people to think it is a motorbike...... Highly dangerous!
