It used to make me cry too when I was 7 and I still believed in dragons. I'd probably still cry if I tried to sing it now, as well as anyone within earshot.
Fancy forgetting your childhood friend like little Jackie in the song. It's no wonder there are no dragons left.
The song that does it for me now is the Christmas carol O come o come Emmanuel but it does depend upon who is singing it. It touches me emotionally, both the words and the haunting melody.
I agree again - really lovely words. "Losing my timing this late in my career" and so on.
My utterly useless party piece is that I remember the precise words to every song I listen to - whether I like it or not. It's a joy when I need to entertain myself on a long train journey, but hard to explain why you know the words and arrangement to Haven't Stopped Dancing Yet, by way of example...
So anyway, it does make me appreciative of (what I think) are good lyrics.

I'm a sucker for the lyrics too Rhona and your list above is wonderful .
Nerdy Moment I've always had a soft spot for Send in the Clowns. Barbra Streisand contacted Stephen Sondheim to suggest the lyrics needed some more work as one verse didn't feel right to her and she felt with hindsight it needed more clarity. Sondheim agreed and on Streisand's album is the later version rewritten by Sondheim with the amended lyrics which do give the song more clarity and a different emphasis. Still a superb song whichever lyrics are used. End of Nerdy moment
Lots of the above affect me but Annie's song was played at my sister Annie's funeral so that one does it for me. Also All she wants is another baby was played over and over on the radio when Annie had a miscarriage. Simply the Best was played at My mum's funeral, my mum was the best, also another one that escapes me now but will think of it later.
Gardening ..... begins with daybreak
and ends with backache
Your'e beautiful by James Blunt, but for the wrong reasons, have to turn it off as it makes my ears bleed and anything by Celene Dion for the same reason.
Bocelli
LOL - I just sprayed tea over the keyboard!
Against All Odds - Phil Collins. It was on the radio around the time my Gran died "there's nothing left here to remind me, just the memory of your face"
many songs make me cry, "Without you" now sung by Mariah Carey
But there is one hymn!! "All things bright & beautiful" - reminds me of my grandad and we sang it at his funeral and from then on 15 years ago, i now sob! He is the reason i garden - love ya grandad x

Dancing at Whitsun. It's about the ladies left after the first world war who had no boyfriends/husbands and no chance now of getting any. "The ladies go dancing at Whitsun."
Willie McBride. I think it's "Futility of War" songs that get me blubbing - and I don't blub easily, I'll tell you!
There are other songs that touch me deeply, "The Song of Farewell" sung by Jane Harrison, I had this played at my Mother's funeral as it always made her cry because it reminded her how much she missed my Dad. I contacted David Bedford for a copy of the lyrics so the congregation could follow why it was so important, I think it came from the musical Les Misarables.
Also Plaisir d'amour for no particular reason
I am certain that the day my boat comes in, I'll be at the airport.
There comes a point in your life when you realize who matters, who never did, who won't anymore and who always will. Don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn't make it in your future.
Dire Straits 'Brothers in Arms' springs to mind, and if I could think more straight (well, I am onto my second glass of a very fine white!) I'm sure I could think of a few more!
Life is brief and very fragile, do that which makes you happy.
