hummm.. im probably going against the grain here but I dont mind them , everyone has the choice of clicking on them or not, as long as they are benificial for the website, are they? Ive just clicked on one and it opens in the same window, is they a way you can make them open in a new window so that it does not take readers away from the grapevine?

Well I quite honsetly don't like them, they are placed right at the top of the page making it so you have to scroll down to see the posts,. couldn't you put them down the side or along the bottom ???
But in time I think we will all just get used to themafter a few weeks

Sorry I have another idea, why not make the forum something to do with the magazine, maybe write some articals about it or ask members on here for ideas for the magazine and that way it might pay its way a little bit more
But maybe not, its just an idea

              Well
#1, You could write some articles about the forum and the members ( I don't know what else to say as im not a writer)
#2. Maybe each month you could create a post on the forum and ask for suggestions on the magazine (hot topics). There are a lot of newbies on the forum so that to me says more in the magaine should be for newbies.
#3 Why not talk to people who own gardening related sites and get them to help you and make a page with links to external sites
Im sorry I kept on thinking of ideas

Ok...you surprised me this morning and I’ve since had a think about it plus a look around the forums. The adds aren't all that bad...most are discreet and although the added scrolling is annoying it could be much worse. I know that I'd get used to them should they stick. The pop-up comment was mostly a joke...although it's good to know you guys would never do that to us. They are the most annoying thing in the world....that and banana's that wont open!

Personally I will never click on them but that's just me. If they manage to create funds to keep the site going then I’m all for it. I love this place. It's full of people that are as obsessed with Veg n stuff as I am. No one else understands! So test away on the adverts...but perhaps a bit of warning next time so you don't get the knee jerk reaction!

As far as suggestions for the magazine...if you were going to do something on the forum and it's members perhaps you could do a piece on someones garden. I love seeing other peoples gardens/allotments/pots etc and I'd really enjoy a monthly page showing this!

MissyMoo, Did you see the artical in Septembers (or is it Augusts) Issue of GYO, featuring our very own Piggletwillies allotment?

I think there is a thread Jax started up for mag suggestions wasn't there? I'll see if I can dig it out.
Also, we do get advertising in the mag already, or aybe that need to be canged..? not sure

Missy Moo, you did make me laugh outloud about banana's that won't open. Got a few odd looks in the office I can tell you, bursting out laughing for no apparent reason!

I still, and always have liked a links idea as we could then cross-advertise

Since these ads are on almost every site I visit, I am used to them and they do not bother me at all. The position at the top of the page is preferable to me. That way they disappear when one scrolls down to the important parts.
Agree about the irritation of them replacing this Forum, but pressing the Back arrow on I.E brings one back to where one started.

This thread is primarilary for discussing the Google Ad's (hint hint) - however, a link page WILL be added next month. I can see Lesley grinning already....

I like Adam's idea of the mag featuring questions that are talked about on the Vine.

When I first got the GYO mag in December, I would hunt through looking for a mention of the Vine and any comments made by the mag. I'm sure you will all agree that is only mentioned in passing (apart from Piletwillie's star performance!!) This is a shame as the mag could pick up on our comments...especially as there are (to my knowledge) very few specialists giving advice on this site, as most of what we suggest is from our own amateur experience and research.
Professional comments would be most welcome creating more of an interaction with the magazine. I think we would all learn more too!
It's good to share advice , and this is what makes this site so friendly.

I think I like to consider myself as part of a 'veggie family' rather than a potential new client to advertisers.
I suppose I could get used to more specific adverts ( gardening/nature) especially if the Vine will benefit.

I see that changes are afoot in this month's magazine too( just arrived) and hope that Paul has fun in his new role as Editor. Off to read it now with a nice cup of tea!
