Crikey! exclaimed Red, stepping quickly back onto the street to avoid the welter of oddly dressed bodies, including a couple of butch women in matching frilly blouses, which suddenly began to issue through the pub doorway.....

Being new to town, she'd decided to pop down to the village hostelry to introduce herself.

She hadn't quite known what to expect when they said there was always something going on at the local but judging by the noise and costumes it was the karaoke theme night.....

'Great' she thought 'I hope this is a weekly event'

She loved any exscuse to dress exotically and dance.....and thoughts of what she could wear to their next do began to whirl around inside her head

'Hmm, maybe something with glitter and sparkly bits.....'

Oh..thought Red suddenly, as another thought interrupted her potential wardrobe crisis....

'Exscuse me' she said politely to the flustered looking maid with the limp, who was trying to swig out of a large bottle she had in one hand and wrestle off a woman who was clinging to her with the other,

'But am I too late to see Mr Willie's show, only it said on the local noticeboard that there would be a display of his nuts followed by a demonstration of how to handle them properly when they're hot?'

'Sorry, ..but as you can see', said the maid, tugging at the woman's death grip,

I'm rather too busy at the moment....',

pauses, whilst taking another large swig,

'to be bothered about any Willie or associated nuts... ', she replied, still desperately trying to wrench herself free but apparently not willing to relinquish the bottle to do so,

'Go inside and.......'

..if you can't get your hands on Willies nuts...ask for Jacob's crackers....

..or there are lots of big jugs ... of pea-pod wine on the table over there.

meanwhile the cheese-and-onion-bread is finally cool enough to slice. "OK, no Marmite on this one" and the Twiglets have disappeared... I wonder who took those?????

" Right - out the way...it's Ready Steady Cook day today" called Snadger wandering in with Womble, arms laden with ignored apples,spuds,cabbage ( unshredded of course) and onions.

"What can people do with this lot???..roll up...roll up- bring your unwanted student food in here"...

...and so the peeps of the hamlet ( any excuse!!) gathered in the Gardeners Rest for a cookery competition.....

Jackie J, a rather shy lady, who'd been lurking unseen all evening in a previously undiscovered corner of the room, brushed a few crumbs from the corner of her mouth....

'This should be fun', she thought....

' And if there's any left overs we can bottle em and flog em at the fair, Rustylady and i've got quite a nice collection of jars between us,' said Bride

She might learn something cos she's a hopeless cook and doesnt know how to cook her ......

.....Rocket( spuds) from her Rocket ( salad)

" That's a VEG???" she asked in a dumb blonde American sort of accent.." I've heard of Hungry...or was that Hungary???"

The 8th grade kid she'd brought in with her rolled his eyes and smiled....

If those are RED onions I'll make some more cheese-and-onion bread, and how about Vegetarian French Onion Soup? (I've got the Marmite somewhere<g>)

Meanwhile the 8th grader was eyeing up the unshredded cabbage with wary suspicion.....Ha! No way was he going to be tricked into eating that.....Lynda's son had warned him they'd try sooner or later......

Auntie Mo quickly took one of Snadgers cabbages into the only available corner. She borrowed a knife from Farmer Gyles and a poly bag from Auntie Flum's handbag and at the speed of light shredded Snadgers cabbage and put it into the bag. She went back to the group and while the 8th grader wasn't looking slid it onto the table in front of him. His little eyes lit up when he saw it, "that's PROPER food, there's no way you're going to get me to eat that stuff from the ground!"

...and ya see folks...that goes to show what such a nice Auntie she is...(her first thought had been for the chooks)

"This 'll make you nice and strong lad".....

" strong???veg...allotments...digging???"...had he been duped by Auntie Mo???
