And while you are here, what is this wildflower/weed?

The stem is hairy and feels quite sticky to touch.

      Centaury would be my guess.
Our England is a garden, and such gardens are not made
By singing-'Oh how beautiful!" and sitting in the shade,
While better men than we go out and start their working lives
At grubbing weeds from gravel paths with broken dinner-knives. ~ Rudyard Kipling

        Yes, thanks MBE.

I actually thought I'd replied to say I'd found what it was, but that post either didn't make it to the thread or got removed. Now, what about the yellow one?

I don't recognise the yellow one as a native to the UK

I've not seen it around here before, but it's growing wild in a verge along a green lane between overgrown hedging and there are several plants. I'll have to investigate further.

Any chance of more photos of the yellow one MH????
I'm wondering if it's a non native species????

Hawkweed or sowthistle sort of come to mind but that's deffo not the same.

I'll take more pics tomorrow if I remember. Definitely not sow thistle or hawkweed because of the hairy sticky stems.

The first one is a Centaury, I also have it on my backyard but I don't know about the yellow one, it's my first time seeing it. I will definitely make a space in my garden for that, time to lift unnecessary stuff with my wheelbarrow https://gardeningfacts.org/best-wheelbarrow/.

I finally decided Nicos was right and the yellow one is a hawkweed of some type, just growing extra tall drawn up by the close hedges. Thanks for all the replies.
