  • Homemade Xmas decorations?

I was just wondering if anyone is intending to turn their hand to wreath making or other Xmas decorations this year?
I'm intending on making a wreath within the next week!
    I've sourced all the greenery.......

I've just remembered I made a base for a wreath when I gave a grapevine a haircut earlier this Summer and I gave my sister some willow trimmings to do the same. I'm glad you reminded me.

I haven't made a wreath but I would like to give it a go. What do you make your base from? I don't have willow but do have some dogwood if that might work.
I make a kind of garland to go around the fireplace/mantel using lengths of Ivy and Holly woven with Christmas lights, the kind on wire and then decorated with baubles. Looks lovely. but can't be made too far in advance as it dries out.

I have willow for the wreath...got plenty in the garden, but I have used hazel too which works well.

I love the sound of your garland decoration!
Any photos of your previous ones for inspiration please???

Peanut, I would imagine you can use any flexible wood. When I gave my sister the willow she sent me this picture back.

When my sister and I were originally discussing ideas I was thinking of wiring heads of garlic, chillies and sprigs of bay leaves onto the base with other things for someone who liked cookery so that it would look pretty and be useful. However I'm not sure my artistic/DIY skills are up to it.

It's so annoying. When I upload photos and want to preview, I open the preview, but then am unable to close it because of the damn dead space at the bottom of the screen. Only option is to then go back, which messes everything up. Grrrrrr.

Anyway, here, finally, should be my Christmas Garland and a little table thingy.

I've never been very successful making a wreath, not giving up though, I will try again, I've got the greenery, just not a flower arranger.
