Those of you with more than one, how do you manage? Do you have full time jobs as well? I only have my back garden and can spend hours out there in the evenings and at weekends. I don't know how I'd manage if I had to travel to tend my veg.pjh75

Having started off with 'growing at home', and then WHOOPPEE! Trousers and I got an Allotment about 10 minutes' drive from home. It was fantastic for 'Low Maintenance Vegetables' that we didn't need to tend on a daily basis, and the extra space, for that reason alone, was well worth the annual rental of 12, so all of our 2008 Brassicas, Butternuts, Sweetcorn, 2nd lot of Borlotti Beans and Onions went up there, amongst others.
I think that everyone should have access to an allotment if they want one.
Our allotment is probably only half the size of 'normal' allotments, and it has been the most fantastic experience.
With moving on to pastures new now, we're handing our allotment over to new people - as you would....
Each to their own, naturally, but personally, I have taught myself in the process, that I much prefer being able to just 'pop outside' for what I want to cook with in my kitchen. So therefore, I'm of the 'Grow At Home' Brigade (if room allows).
I truly admire allotment-holders. I'd be constantly saying to Trousers "Bugger it - I forgot to dig up the ruddy leeks?" and I'd spend more on Unleaded than Biodynamic Vegetable Seed..... (see Gardeners' Rest 'run with that one' children!!)

Me none - though the community side would appeal, it would be unfair of me considering what we have here.Hayley B

One for me also. Work stops me from getting another at the present time, although i must admit, it is tempting to get another just for the fruit and cut flowers."He that but looketh on a plate of ham and eggs to lust after it hath already committed breakfast with it in his heart"
