Uses for an old bath

Hi everyone, I've just acquired an old bath. Besides the obvious use of saving rain water in it are there any other uses for it down on the plot.

Dig a hole and use it to create a wildlife pond.

dig a hole...sink it...let it fill up, and get some DUCKS!!

Well, that's what I'd do anyway!!

Various 'pond' options if the plug is available, if not, fill it with earth for a 'different' planter....

Put mint or Horseraddish in it to keep the roots in.

Grow carrots in it, easy to protect against carrot fly.

Here's one I made earlier!

I put some clay soil in it to form a ramp......plateux....ramp to allow creatures to climb out if they fell in accidentally. then I covered it with black teram.........was given a pond plant (no idea what it is).......anyway tied it to a brick.......threw it in and Bob's your uncle!
It's 'matured' a bit since the piccie was taken!

Hi everyone, I've just acquired an old bath. Besides the obvious use of saving rain water in it are there any other uses for it down on the plot.

If you half fill it with soil and then put in lots of rainwater it would be a great way to grow watercress (eg Aqua from Marshalls)

I concur with Polly - perfect carrot grower. Just make sure you leave the plug out.

I did something similar to Snadger and put the old taps back on. Then I put a duck ornament in front of it and fetched my (then 14 yr-old) son at twilight, whispered to him that a duck had landed at the new pond and laughed til I cried watching him ever so slowly and ever so quietly creeping up on it for a closer look. He still hasn't forgiven me. : )

You're welcome. If you put a few bricks in at one end to create a platform just below the water level near the rim you can combine this with a wildlife pond, but avoid fish & ducks as they will eat the watercress
