i am pretty certain that the Blackheath thing is an urban myth - it wasnt a big plague pit at all and its not built on because of some statute or other .....we used to live fairly close - well Lewisham - and my husband taught in a school close by ........of course it could have been local propoganda (Greenwich council pr department) that gave me my 'facts'.

Tell you what. I will lend you a shovel and you have a dig. If you die of Plague, I am right and you can keep the shovel.

If you don't then I am wrong and I get my shovel back.
