Remember the original series, missed the first of this one due to a very hectic weekend with grandchildren, snow etc. Hoping to catch up with the next episode.

Was only looking at the original series on Amazon the other day, then I see this pop up!

I used to love it as a kid, wouldnt go to bed until I'd seen it, even if I dont remember much of it now, I loved it at the time!

Have to agree that the music and beginning of the original was more moody and frightening (just like the same from The Day of The Triffids BBC series), but the cinematography was excellent, and the sense of doom and foreboding in the new one was good!

If the new series ends up with the group going out into the countryside (like my plan was/is if it ever happened), then I can see it being brilliant, showing the hardships, mistakes and disasters of the struggling community, but I have a feeling that they are going to concentrate more on the scavenging side and conflict between groups, which in such a situation is not something that needs to happen (Plenty of stuff for everyone really).

Loved the guy in the Landy with the camping gear, deffo a part of my plans!

I love things like this, loved Day of the Triffids, loved the book of The Stand (the film was ok, but not a patch on the book IMHO), and know what my plans would be in such a situation (guess thats the loner / depressive / manic side of me coming out! lol!)

So, if it did happen, what would YOUR plans be??
      Blessings

I'd set up base in the country park visitor centre where I work - it has a wood burning stove that you could cook on - a shower - hot water and electric solar panels - 4 wheel drive vehicles and tractors - tools - metal shutters for the windows and doors - 2 garden centres within 4 miles of it (one of which has a massive wind turbine and a camping supplies section) - it is surrounded by farmland with sheep and cows on it - it also has 3 lakes within walking distance so fishing would be possible - there are also deer in the woodland. Best of all I already have a set of keys so I wouldn't have to break into the building.
Am I sad to have such a detailed plan or what ?!

          Lol, not sad, not really!

I'd look for a place out in the wilds, prefferably with solar / water power available, solid fuel heating, plenty of land for growing veg and keeping animals, kit myself out with everything I'd need, 4 WD, fuel tanker full of fuel, etc. Possibly near Shell Island in Wales, which has a runway just down the road, so could indulge myself with a light aircraft n a helicopter, to explore! Deffo get plenty of provisions and supplies, plus a rifle for hunting / protection, a boat for sea fishing, etc.

Now thats gotta be sad!! Lol!
          Blessings

On the riginal they got into at least one farming cock-ups.
Sowed Winter Barley in Spring and the farmer they found said that made it worthless. Not sure that would actually be worthless though, but seem to remember something about it needing a frost.

Mrs Dobby, do you remember the last episode of the original.
"I Greg, promise to pay the bearer on demand one gallon of petrol."
They even got to play with a steam train and to use the national grid as a field telephone.

By the way, all the stuff bods are comparing with are HORROR films, with vampires, mutants, aliens etc.
The premise of this is so much simpler,
Nothing arrives that is not around before the calamity, other than a nasty little lethal virus.

              "Ring a ring of roses,
              a pocket full of posies
atishoo, atishoo we all fall down........."

Interesting modern addition, the bunker with the scientists in the trailer for Tuesday.

I'm a guide for our local lighthouse, that's where I'd hole up. (I think in a film/TV version of Triffids the goodies ended up in a lighthouse).

Anyhoo, easy to defend staircase, if you pick carefully you will have some land to grow crops (check where your lighthouse is - some really don't suit farming). Good thick insulating walls, and a good long distance view.

No help at all against vampires, unless your garlic crop has been better than mine.

                  It was a bit pants.

It was flu...but people just died. All those that were praying died, instantly so why were there no car crashes or fires buning.

She wakes up 3 days later...looking like she had just come out of the Beauty salon.

The streets were empty except for some woman in a car. So if she died instantly like the rest how did she turn off the engine?

after 3 days none of the corpses has, Pallor mortis, Livor mortis post mortal staining.

and they were all deaf....If there were only 2 peope in the city alive the boy would have heard that car miles away.

                  Poor......2/10 see me.

Ah, but was it just flu? Or was it something that has been cooked up in one of those govt labs that got out? In that case we don't know how it would affect some people. Some ethnic groupings may have been specifically targeted. Not to sound alarmist but notice how all the people (except the little lad) in the mosque dropped like a stone? It has been postulated that viruses can be specifically aimed at certain groups - could this be a supposedly ideal weapon against Muslim extremists that has in fact gone drastically wrong and is in fact lethal in varying degrees to the majority of the population rather than a specific section?

We'd all be ok for veg anyway. Raid the camping shop, don't forget the supermarket and the tin-opener!
There should be loads of cows with their legs crossed and plenty of hens up to their ears in eggs. We'd cope eh?

Will watch it as there's no I'm a Celeb tonight, but can't say I was riveted last week. I also noticed that there were no animals roaming the streets, and thought it too far fetched in the mosque, all those bodies suddenly dying together.

I would make sure we had plenty of seeds!

Well, they found some hens. That's not a helpful way to catch them though!
I know I'm not accepting the spirit of the thing but if 90% of the population were wiped out there'd still be a hell of a lot more than that. In our village of 400 houses I'd expect at least 80 people. And you can walk right out the other side of the village in 7 minutes!
