They said on the radio today at teatime that the stores in smaller towns would have a better chance of surviving, especially if it was the only place that sold cd's and dvd's. The bigger one have too much competition from the big supermarkets. To be honest I'm not suprised, I rarely go to either Driffield or brid woolies. Their dvd's and cd's are expensive. Tho last Christmas I managed to get the toys my 2 grandsons wanted (very non pc soldiers) and they came within a week.
As for furniture I got real wood at auctions for alot less than MFI, and it doesn't need putting together, and doesn't drop to bits!
Mad Old Bat With Attitude.
I tried jogging, but I couldn't keep the ice in my glass.
Mine and my partners mums both work for Woolworths. They don't even know if their pensions are safe? My mum has been paying into her pension for 25 years!!
Oh, I feel guilty now!
Was it all that pick-n-mix that I used to pilfer as a teenager, that sent Woolies to the wall?
No actually it was me and the kids....they started doing the cup of pick and mix. £1.99 small cup and £2.99 big cup......the rule was as long as you could get the lid on it was £2.99.
We went on once and they weighed my cup and said if I paid by the 100g it would have cost £9.80.
We had an art to it...with a bit of science if you need the answer to unified field theory and Non Newtonian liquids get down to Woolworths

yep , thats what i am going to miss most, i get all my kitchen stuff from woolies, and gardening stuff too, there IS nowhere else in our town.
we have just been in there today, everything is coming down in price yet again, just picked up a black granite mortar and pestle for £3, pity i am so broke, there are bargains galore, but you feel like a bit of a vulture, picking over the bones, while the staff don't even know whats going to happen to them yet.
Oh I want one of those I am going down there tomorrow.....
It was a long time coming.....they were £385M in debt and have some big shops. But they weren't one thing or an other.....Wilkos are cheap you know that when you shop there. But Wollies didn't know what market they wanted. they had a bit of car stuff a few garden bit some cheapo toys.....
the only good bit is hopefully the small shops will start coming back. We have a hardware/household shop up the high street. I popped in ages ago and asked if he stocked screwtop jars....."no, but give me a number and I will ask arround".Gave him my card...about a month later i get this phone call "do you still want jars? 1lb or 2lb? and how many"....he was phoning me from the wholesaler and I got 2 dozen.
He remebered me and he got the sale...we use him a lot now.....that what we need.

yes, we have one, they are brilliant for all those bits you just can't get anywhere else, like the adapters for football pumps, they didn't have them when i asked, but when i went back 2 weeks later she said ' i remebered you wanted these', excellent service, more local shops is what we need. I try to shop local for anything and everything, if they don't do it or can't get it i still try to avoid supermarkets and go online.
