    Hi All,

One chapter into The Little Book Of The Spitfire by David Curnock.

Little Book of the Spitfire is a 128-page hardback book fully illustrated with photographs written by David Curnock. In the history of the aeroplane there is one aircraft that is fully deserving of the accolade "legendary" - the Supermarine Spitfire. Against overwhelming odds in the Battle of Britain, and taking part in major actions in every operational theatre in World War 2, the Spitfire became a symbol of victory. Built in greater numbers than any other aircraft of the time, examples of this icon of British aviation achievement are still flying today, paying tribute to her designer and makers, and in honour of those who flew and maintained her in those dark days. I'm reading English Pastoral - An Inheritance by James Rebanks
"It's the story of an inheritance: one that affects us all and tells of how rural landscapes around the world were brought close to collapse, and the age-old rhythms of work, weather, community and wild things were lost".

Really enjoying the book and it's relevance to the way we grow our own veg.

            Hi All,
One chapter into The Fog by James Herbert 1975, I watched the film made by John Carpenter many moons ago if I am correct in thinking that was set on the US East coast ? Anyway the next-door neighbour read it while on holiday last week so he thought I may like it so here I am giving it a go.

A peaceful village in Wiltshire is shattered by a disaster which strikes without reason or explanation, leaving behind a trail of misery and horror. A yawning, bottomless crack spreads through the earth, out of which creeps a fog that resembles no other. Whatever it is, it must be controlled.

              Hi All,
Just started Open Skies by Nick Pope, not only does he right about what for many despite rather compelling evidence think is in peoples minds he also rights fiction using his acquired knowledge that comes in as a useful tool when creating these works. But back to this book he applies the same exacting standards he used while investigating this phenomena while in service.

Open Skies, Closed Minds, a book on ufology, expresses the views of Nick Pope, a former UFO investigator with the British Ministry of Defence. The book provides an overview of the UFO phenomenon, with the emphasis on Pope's three-year tour of duty as the Ministry of Defence's UFO desk office (Courtesy of Wiki.)

                Hi All,
2nd time around for this book and one chapter in, Operation Lightning Strike - Nick Pope.

The aliens say they come in peace - but evidence suggests otherwise. An alien spacecraft is making its way towards Earth. It will arrive within weeks. .

I have not long been reading this book which is the personal journey of Brother Romon, there are no specific chapters as such just different stages of his thoughts and his personal journey that you are privileged to accompany him on....

About the Author (Courtesy of Amazon)

Brother Ramon SSF was an Anglican Franciscan friar who, from 1990 until his death in 2000, explored the hermit life. He wrote widely, especially on the subject of prayer and spirituality. With Bishop Simon Barrington-Ward, he co-wrote Praying the Jesus Prayer Together, which was published by BRF in 2001.

EDIT:- Certainly gives you food for thought )

Nine chapters into HMS Ulysses by Alistair Maclean, a great page turner and the descriptive narrative in one action of what happens when a ship is sunk is quite in depth with all it's detail not told by others. It's as if you are actually witnessing the scenes unfold as the story unfolds first hand, it gives a glimpse into the horror of the Artic convoys that until recently never got the recognition they truly deserved.
                              -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The novel that launched the astonishing career of one of the 20th century's greatest writers of action and suspense - an acclaimed classic of heroism and the sea in World War II. Now reissued in a new cover style.

The story of men who rose to heroism, and then to something greater, HMS Ulysses takes its place alongside The Caine Mutiny and The Cruel Sea as one of the classic novels of the navy at war.

It is the compelling story of Convoy FR77 to Murmansk - a voyage that pushes men to the limits of human endurance, crippled by enemy attack and the bitter cold of the Arctic.

Major Vorontsyev (for it is he) has stumbled upon a plot which would mean a new Russian revolution and the start of a war with the West. The Soviet leader is meeting his American counterpart for the SALT 3 talks which provides the perfect opportunity for the new revolution by the hard-liners who will take over in his absence.

Meanwhile the British have also discovered that something is up. Aubrey of MI6 sends a succession of ill-fated SAS personnel (codename "Snow Falcon") to the Norwegian-Finnish border to try and find out what the Russians are up to. One by one all the agents vanish. There is just time for one more mission involving Waterford from Firefox Down (written later but set before this novel)...

Six chapters into this cold war era book and as always Craig does not disappoint IMHO, I have read a number of his books and the writing is the same:- As in you get totally sucked into the world within the storyline, letting you imagine what comes next before you get the end result, like always a good page turner if your like myself and just like to getaway from all the rubbish of the world for a chapter or two.

EDIT:- Thoroughly enjoyed the book with saddish but good ending..
