Kill Bill 2 and the deer scarer

I am looking for thick bamboo to construct the classic Japanese deer scarer (shishi-odoshi) problem is where do I source the bamboo?

Not sure were you'd buy this from but the postage might be more than the item, unless you can source locally.

goes without saying - one idea was to buy something made with bamboo - tiki torch?

Are you near a botanic garden? They may grow big bamboo and sell it when it is pruned/thinned etc.
Otherwise, I think it would work out as cheap or cheaper just to buy a deer scarer.

If you Google 'moso poles' there's a uk bamboo company (in East Sussex) that supplies imported bamboo poles up to 15cm in diameter.
