  • Shingles is a terrible thing. Fingers crossed it's not that. I've never had chicken pox and I don't fancy ever getting shingles. Is there a jab these days? I must find out.

    • MrPots has had shingles twice it took ages for him to recover both times.
I'm like you Snoop I've not had Chickenpox even though as a kid my parents had me sleeping with my siblings. In the Uk the jabs for 70 to 79 age group.

      • My dad had shingles once. A second time must be just awful, Bren.

I've checked here. Vaccine not recommended for healthy adults. I'd have it if I could.

          • Talking about illness...Can I just say due to my poor eyesight I seem to be posting more and more errors.
I have glaucoma in both of my eyes.
The sight in my right eye is extremely bad.
            Just wanted to say...

              • That must be very frustrating for you Really sorry.

tbh , I haven't really noticed any errors youā€™ve made, so as far as we are concerned, you are coping exceptionally well Bramble x

I think we have taken the cleanliness too far now Flo. I am not advocating that we should stop it all completely, but it does get a bit extreme sometimes, when I was younger, and sweets were scarce and rationed, if you dropped one on the ground, you picked it up and eat it, usually with a the prayer, God kiss it before the devil licks it, I am not saying this was healthy but I do think it helped our immunity, mind you I never got that many sweets and it would be a very rare occasion if I dropped one

                    • Mr GF insisted that I cancel his doctor's appointment this afternoon as an hour after I had booked it he insisted he felt fine ..... and still does.

                      Aaaarrrggghh!!!!!šŸ¤ÆšŸ¤ÆšŸ¤Æ

I called into the surgery at 1pm and did cancel it as they give out more urgent appointments at 2pm and somebody probably really needs it.

The one really slow, but really helpful, receptionist was at the desk when I called in. There have been times when her slowness has driven me mad, particularly when the queue has reached epic proportions, but she does have her very good points. I suppose it is like the doctors, they all have different strengths....and weaknesses. The one doctor who I would consider has the worst bedside manner would be the one I would want if I was seriously ill, but not for common ailments.

I completely agree that we shouldn't be too clean (no chance with my housekeeping skillsšŸ™„šŸ˜šŸ¤ŖšŸ¤«šŸ¤šŸ¤„). As children we did things that modern children would never do, or even have the chance to do. I do occasionally wonder how we ever survived.

Rary, sweets rationed!!!??? You are showing your age!!!???

But on a more serious note you are correct regarding children not getting the chance to do the things that we did, life is so different now

                          • Good evening, it has been a cold day with a short shower, was going to go out to the greenhouse to do some work, but as the temperature will be rising next week I will just wait for that, bramble don't worry if you think things might be wrong, anything about, weather, activities, (I hope I am still as active as you when I reach your agešŸ™„šŸ˜) gardening, in fact about life, is interesting to read about, so please don't stop.
Right have a good evening and remember to pass on the smiles

ps. just a note, if I pass on smiles to OH, I get asked "what have you done now or what are you after"

                            • Mornin nā€™allnā€™all

Brrrā€¦. Tis -3C at the moment ā€¦sunny and very frosty.
                              Really pretty.

OH needs something from the mega DIY store by the coastā€¦itā€™s near ikea and a huuuge fabric shop which has a sale on ā€¦.I guess thatā€™s going to take up most of the day

I love reading everyoneā€™s chatter on here- as you say rary- itā€™s really interesting whatever the subject as we all have differing life experiences but with the common theme of gardening.
These life experiences make us what we areā€¦.touching each other through friendship. And Iā€™m grateful for those experiences -
including from those no longer with us.

Soā€¦on thatā€¦ who fancies sharing a brew? I spotted the smiles heading north a few minutes ago so they should be arriving very soonā€¦

Enjoy your day peeps- whatever mischief you get up to

                              • Good morning. Supposedly it's 2Ā°C here. I'm not inclined to believe it as everything, despite the sun's feeble effort, is still frozen solid and white over. There is not a cloud in the sky.

If, as forecast, we actually reach the dizzying heights of 6Ā°C I think we'll call at the garden centre later for more bird food. The garden centre is only about 3 miles away but it on the edge of the moor and much higher than here. They can have far worse weather than us. The one thing I don't give the birds is peanuts as my next door neighbour constantly keeps them supplied with those and seems to attract all the local squirrels too.
