  • Morning all.

Sunny here too, but with a few clouds which are definitely moving east to west, so I guess it's dry and chilly for the rest of today.

I'm planning on making a bread and butter pudding for lunch dessert. There's a small loaf been loitering in the freezer for long enough, time it was used

    • A lovely relaxing Sunday, so far. I decided to have a sort out/tidy up of my recipe file. As I was browsing I found an old recipe of my mother's for chocolate sauce, complete with ancient chocolate finger marks. Then I remembered that I used to use this recipe to go with profiteroles filled with cream. I am deliberately now trying to not give in to the urge to make some. It would be a really bad idea when there's only 2 of us as I know all the extra profiteroles would gang up on me and make me eat them as they are just not as nice and crispy the next day.

      • Good afternoon, it's sunny but cold day just in from church and having lunch, when I was a boy this was known as dinner and the evening meal was tea, how things can change in such a short time, with emphasis on the short, before any of you think differently GF I am the same as your OH I don't remember my dreams either, but then I just put it down to a clear conscience 😇 think I will go out to the greenhouse for a time and tidy up, then again I, might not bother, tidying up I mean, not the going out bit😁.
Enjoy your day, try and spread a little happiness by passing on some smiles

Gentle day for me today too. It’s been lovely!
I hope you made those profiteroles today gf?

How did the bread and butter pudding go MH…I’ve been drooling at the thought all afternoon!…that and profiteroles

Rary, I grew up with dinner at lunch time and tea around 5.30…dinner being the main meal of the day.
At secondary school midday was lunchtime, 5.30 was tea time and Dinner was reserved for the Sunday roast.
These days I don’t have breakfast as such, just brunch, then supper - the main meal of the day anytime from 6pm onwards.
          Utterly confusing isn’t it?!
Interestingly, the word supper comes from the French ‘Souper’…meaning a soup dish served early evening, ( main meal at lunchtime as was always the case historically both in the uk and France.)

          • Morning all.

Dinner and tea here still, though we tend to eat both later than in the UK. Lunch and supper when friends are here. No chance of me calling our evening meal dinner. Too confusing.

So, a ridiculously busy day ahead. Trying not to think of how much I've got to get through... The smiles scarpered when they saw my face as I read an email telling me of an impending deadline I knew nothing about. Anyway, better get on with it.

            Have a great day, everyone.

            • Morning everybody.

Dinner and tea here too, weekdays, but for some unknown reason, Sunday lunch . The bread and butter pudding was delicious, Nicos! Enough left over for tea tonight.

Nothing like a sudden deadline to make you get a wiggle on, Snoop! That was the one thing I hated about packing pork pies, everything was deadlines through the day as different pies had to leave the bakery by certain times in order to meet delivery.

MH we've not had bread and butter pudding for ages will have to make one, its usually either crumble or a sponge pudding

Dinner and tea here, we eat our main meal at around 7 in the evening, also bread rolls are called bread cobs were we live so was wondering what others call them.

Snoop I hope you meet your deadline xx

                • Good morning. It's 3°C, drizzling and generally miserable here.

I managed to summon up the will power yesterday not to make profiteroles, but I've promised myself next time I cook for visitors they will be on the menu. They have to be light, crispy, stuffed with whipped cream and served with more than a drizzle of warm chocolate sauce. Yum! Yum!

As a child we had dinner around midday and took our dinner money to school to pay for school dinners on weekdays. We had tea at about 5pm. Now we have breakfast (not for me), elevenses, then a small sandwich at lunchtime and a main meal between 5pm and 6pm which is usually referred to as dinner. I can be adaptable however and I have even been known to have a "full English" when in a hotel and when in France to go sniffing out fresh croissants and coffee at sunrise.

While washing up I've just been watching some of the local magpies. The nest that a lone magpie was refurbishing a few days ago now has a pair of magpies flying in and out.

I've just heard on the weather forecast that there might be a chance of seeing the Northern lights again tonight. It's something I'd love to see and never have yet.

We'll be finishing the banana loaf for elevenses today so I'm trying to decide what to make next......maybe lemon drizzle loaf.

                  • Mornin n’alln’all

Another sunny start to the day but with an absolutely freezing wind.
The UV forecast here has crept up to 3 for the first time this year. The max we’ve had in the summer has been 9 , so it’s slowly heading that way!
No set plans for today apart from eating less…I somehow managed to put on weight this week…must be all this chatting about cakes and puddings

Good luck with the work Snoop- not much fun - sorry.

Brew time over - I best get a wiggle on and do something constructive now that I’m feeling guilty

Enjoy your day…fingers crossed we get to see the Aurora this evening.Enjoy your day peeps

                    • Good Morning All Just been cleaning the front window outside, I can't remember the last time I had to do that, we've always had a window cleaner but he hasn't been for months. I'm sure I can't make them look any worse! Hope you make your deadline Snoop Brunch late morning here and evening meal at six on weekdays, weekends are no cooking. In my childhood it was breakfast, dinner and tea, sometimes a light supper before bed and always salmon salad Saturdays and Roast dinner on Sundays. Monday was washing so always a hash, I can smell it still Breadcakes here Bren.

                            • Actually , to me, a barm cake is flat , ( presumably cooked on both sides) and floured . Rounded ones are ‘bread rolls’ and long thin ones are ‘finger rolls’
A ‘bun’ to me is sweet.
