    • Morning all. You having a lie-in? Or all busy and having fun?

It's bright blue here, but what a cold night! How plants survive I do not know. I wouldn't stand out there all night. I had to go and pick a head of broccoli and a romanesco last night at about 9 pm and the broccoli stalk was really hard, like it was nigh-on frozen solid. I was only out for a few minutes but was extremely glad to get back indoors.

No malt loaf today either as Mr Snoop wants to see if he can find the right kind of beer somewhere. So it's being put off till next weekend. No probs as I've got a really busy day ahead anyway.

The smiles left in a good mood. They and the dogs had a good laugh at my expense after I dropped my slice of freshly-made, salted-buttered toast on the floor. I shared it out between the two dogs, none for the smiles, though they enjoyed the smell. I shall make more later and that'll show them. Meanwhile, cups of tea for anyone as wants one.

      Have a great day, everyone.

Edited: morning, Rary. Didn't see you there. That's a bit of a wander, to be honest. I could meet you halfway, though.

      • Mornin n’alln’all

We seem to be going through a warmer spell…so it’ll be a gardening day today I think we have snow forecast again mid weeks so I best crack on!

Rary - I think the chicken breeds these days are such that they reach eating size very much younger so , although very tender, they haven’t had a chance to develop a flavour.(5-6 weeks if I recall correctly)
See if you can source any local farm chooks - they are a totally different flavour and texture.

Hibou brought my breakfast in today…a lovely big mouse..yuk

Best crack on - what’s everyone up to today?
        Whatever it is, enjoy yourselves

        • Morning

Not been far yet just to the GH to check temps then to gather herbs for this evenings meal. A quick look around the vine then we'll be in the kitchen sorting out the slow cooker.
Snoop you do know your dogs will be hanging around in future hoping you're going to drop another piece of toast.

          • Good Morning All and hello to Carrie! I suppose it landed butter side down Snoop?
Freezing cold here too, I had to endure the cold bathroom this morning but the shower was hot. Heating on now.
            Have a lovely Sunday All

No bad thing if they hang around... This seems about the right time to say that Mr Snoop is pretty convinced he saw three young wolves about one km from our house the other day... They crossed the road in front of his car. Pale for wolves, but within the possible range. Definitely not your average dog, he says. He's not prone to exaggerating, in fact quite the opposite. He spoke to a local about it and it seems like it really was just a matter of time before they arrived. Looks like that time is now. And as we live out in the countryside, we'd likely be among the first ones to spot them if they do turn up in our area. They could just be passing through on their way to better territory up in our nearby mountains - lots of deer (population is too high in fact), boar and wild goats. Anyway, fingers crossed... I was quite apprehensive last night when I went out to pick the veg after dark. Won't be doing that again.

                • Oh gosh Snoop !…that’s going to be an experience to live with!

My friends who are coming over this week used to live in the north of Sweden where they had wolves and bears to contend with. They had to be careful about what they did with their waste bins….

Take care Snoop, and I hope the wolves go off into the mountains.

                    • Good morni g all, grey and cold again.

Snoop, you're a brave lady, going out in the dark with wolves around.

                      Just an ordinary Sunday here.
Off to church shortly and then my grandson will be coming for lunch.
                      Have a good day all.

And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

                        • I've had a productive morning in the kitchen. I belatedly made the Victoria sponge that I was going to make yesterday, I've got the breadmaker clanking away, there's a stew in the slow cooker and the Yorkshire pudding batter is resting in the fridge.

I filled the cake with my homemade blackberry jelly and according to Mr GF it is GORGEOUS. I actually agree. Between my new cooker and Mr GF's sweet tooth I am being led astray. I can never understand how homemade cake tastes so much better than bought cake, yet bought cake costs so much. At Mr GF's insistence I priced the ingredients for my Victoria sponge and even though I used butter rather than margerine it still came in at well under Β£2. Mr GF's comment "Really ........ for a whole cake?" I wonder what he expected.

                          • ^^^^^ Possibley a bigger bit😁
Good afternoon, was at church this morning, then when home and after lunch I went out to the greenhouse, where I emptied more pots to clear up some of the dead plants, I pot all the compost into a container, intending to spread it over the garden, but as I had a tall cardboard box about 3ft high and 6x4 inch I decided to put the box inside a poly bag that had come with the box so just ideal for the box to fit, I then put some compost and a little amount of chicken manure pellets in the box dropped a potato into it then somemore compost, I will keep an eye on it and top up and water as required and see if I get anything from it, as I have said often to OH, you never know till you try , just in for a quick coffee then will be back out, but this time to the garden while the rains off, enjoy the rest of the day and smile
