  • Good morning all.

I had a rubbish night's sleep last night. I just kept waking up. I did think about "accidentally" waking Mr GF up so I'd someone to talk to but I didn't.😇

It's only 3°C at the moment and cloudy, but at least we didn't get the snow showers predicted for the early hours.

I'm going to set the breadmaker off now.

No rain due here today so a good day to be in the garden. No baking for me I seem to have a plenty of bread and cobs in the freezer we must be eating less of it this week.

      Enjoy your outing/shopping trip Nicos.

      • Sorry Nicos I,, just couldn't do the dusting and hoovering to the sound of a fire engine bell
I woke up at 7.15 this morning and rather than getting up I decided to have a little longer in bed, so settled down for a snooze, woke up again 9.15 OH was up and had her breakfast and I never heard or felt a thing, but after such an enjoyable sleep I think I will have a lazy day, that of course is after I do the hoovering and dusting then wash the windows, make the lunch and whatever else OH thinks I need to do😏 but it's a bright sunny morning not a cloud in the sky, so for out to the greenhouse first. Enjoy your day

          • Afternoon all.

I've been pottering in the garden today, much to the blue tit's annoyance, she's started building her nest in the bird box in earnest. The snow we had in early March pulled some of the euonymus away from the wall it ws growing against, and I have been thinking of how to tie it back in, but actually, once I'd trimmed off some forward facing branches it popped back upright to the wall by itself, so I left it loose. It's actually the neighbour's brick shed wall so I didn't want to be knocking supports into it.

It took me forever to do the (insect based) redactle today, and it turned out to be something more simple than I was imagining. Yesterday's was much easier.

                  • Good morning , it turned out a very nice day yesterday so managed to get some outside work done, a bit of tidying up, then set up some metal frames for peas, after that I decided to make a frame with some pallet wood so that I can place some tubs with potatos in the them under a poly tunnell this will free up some room in the greenhouse, just hope the tunnel will keep our the frost, and if so I have other two tunnels I can use as well, just getting ready to head up to my sons to get the boys out to school, so enjoy your day and pass on a smile or two

Won't be doing much outdoors today both weather sites say all day rain, there's always the GH and seed sowing.

Rary if you've got bubble wrap and fleece they should help protect your potatoes from the frost.

                      Enjoy your day

                        • Mornin n’alln’all
Cooler wind and cloudy here. We didn’t get the minus temperatures initially forecast, so it’ll be a gardening day today having taken the day off out in the camper van yesterday.
We got the tap and a plug bit but no seeds. That shop had a different selection of bin end stuff. OH was most disappointed in the selection of beers at 99cents Well, you can’t blame him looking at that price

Tomorrow is forecast 20C (with UV 5).. so that’s going to open up the fruit blossoms. Good for the bees but making them more vulnerable to any frost.

If you smell bread , that’ll be OH pootling around in the kitchen. I must remember to ask him to make some hot cross buns. Not long until Easter is it?

Brew time over - the garden calls- enjoy your day peeps.

                          • Good morning all.

Another grey morning with a forecast of rain and more rain.☔

I'll do the grory hop today. I just need the basics of life. My brother-in-law is coming with us to do his shopping too.

Last night the elderly friend of Mr GF rang to thank me for his goodies. Evidently he'd asked his son to buy him a good quality lemon curd a few weeks ago and was really disappointed with it as it didn't taste "real". Having seen the long list of ingredients in the commercial variety I can see why.

My sister also sent me a recipe for a cucumber based pickle, called Bread and butter pickle, last night which she says is reminiscent of Piccalilli but nicer. If it tastes good I'll let you know when I've tried it. It's always good to have recipes ready for gluts.

                            See you later.

                            • GF here's a link to the pickled courgette recipe I've been using since 2010, I make 6 or 7 jars a year I often swap courgettes for cucumber.
So was wondering is it a similar recipe?

                              • Afternoon all.

Been doing things all morning but not much to show for it. Hope this afternoon is a bit more productive: some paid work then some gardening.

No baking here today. We're doing a good job, eking out the hot crossless buns, one from the freezer for breakfast every day. Till they run out. Then I'll probably make some more that'll see us right for Easter. The Sicilian bread was a success in the end. We're at that funny time of year where it's a bit chilly most nights but not quite cold enough to light the range. Anyway, the cold kitchen meant the dough took 36 hours from start to oven. But it's pretty good. Very strong, cheesy sourdough flavour after all that time. It's now Mr Snoop's favourite bread. Shame the flour's so pricey, though.

Right, better get a move on. Have a great day, everyone.
