  • Mornin n’alln’all

Loads of heavy sploshy stuff going on here which looks set for the day.
Fortunately I still have a massive list of indoor things ‘what were urgent previously and still are’ to crack on with…so no excuses!
At least it’s not cold and miserable…just miserable Maybe I’ll do some baking - that’ll smell lovely in the house.

I was hoping to collect more nettles today both for freezing the tips and making nettle ‘compost tea’ …I’ll watch out for a break in the weather.
Have to say Rary - I do envy your regular source of seaweed.
Are you able to cook with it?…I have powdered seaweed to add to dishes but I was watching this video the other day and it’s got me tempted to try some freshly collected….

Enjoy your day peeps….I’ve not seen the smiles recently - have they set off early or were scared off by the street parties etc?

    • Morning

Sunny here just now but rain later, but like Nicos says there's always something else to do indoors. That reminds me my comfrey is ready for cutting will do that later.

      Enjoy your day

      • Good Morning All Same here Bren, but I've hung out the washing hoping it dries before the rain arrives.
I've found some flower seeds and a packet of Minibel tomato, so I'll experiment in tubs.
        Have a good day

        • Morning all.

I've not seen the smiles recently either, Nicos. I thought maybe they were leaving before I got up. Sounds like not. Maybe they're wandering about with the boar. It has rather a frisky gait and likes wagging its tail when it's eating, which it seems to do most of the time. A waggy tail is sure to intrigue the smiles.

Not sure what to do about the boar now. It has hoovered up all the acorns off the oak trees closest to home, but much to my surprise it is now making inroads into the oats that have sprung up in the field next door. Clearly relishes them. And there are lots to go at... Weeks worth if not months. And that's before it starts making inroads into my veg patch and the fruit trees. It is totally unperturbed by us or the dogs. One of our dogs was very brave and went quite close to it yesterday and had a right good bark. The boar just kicked up its heels and skipped off about three metres. So the dog gave up. Fortunately. Mr Snoop is now talking about getting a gun and a hunter's permit...

So, more the same for me today. Paid work, strimming, weeding and I might sow a few seeds and hope for the best. Even the weather folk are so desperate for it to rain that they're talking about rain coming our way, but when you read the small print it's rain on the northern side of the Pyrenees!

Right, on with the show. The strimmer battery is charged, so I've got no excuse.

          Have a great day, everyone.

          • I was wide awake at 5 am yet again. But I did manage to drop off again and got woken up at 8 am when I could hear workmen cutting the grass verges. I've just made more blackberry buns and they should be cool for elevenses.

I'm going for a Covid booster at lunchtime and I think the rain is due to arrive then too.

            • Good afternoon, up to put the boys out to school then shopping with OH, followed by a visit to our friend, the two of them were talking about another friend, who has become a bit disoriented, and we think has a urine infection, when 1st friend recalled her husband suffering from something that made him a bit wondered, the doc prescribed a small yellow pill, which she said made him rather!!! well she ordered him back to the doctors to get a change of medication, sadly she can't remember the name of the tablets but definitely not viagra, any way I think they are blue, possibly somebody might know?
Nicos its great to see the changes with the trees, and yes the fresh green is nice to see, the colours in nature are fantastic, spring shows a lot of bright colours, and the order of appearance seems to be, yellows to start it off followed by reds and green then blue, moving into summer, then its a rainbow of colours. And no I don't eat any of the seaweed, I suppose from old habits, when young we were told not to eat it due to the oil pollution from ships washing out their hold, sadly bramble all we got last night was heavy rain, however everything comes to he who waits I think I will look up cost of flights to Spain, just to help Snoop out with the hog roast, I don't know how to butcher it nor cook it but I can show you how to eat it, right I am for heading out to the garden now as the sun's shining, so enjoy the rest of the day and pass on some smiles
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

                      • Good evening all.
It's been a busy day here..
Line dancing this morning..Some grocery shopping. A trip to the pharmacy. Had my grandaughter this afternoon seeking a shower as they are having a new bathroom installed. Then to the surgery for my covid booster. Just drove my g daughter home and the rain shas come down.

Rary, you're right everything DOES come to those who wait, just hope the wait is not too long.n

Snoop, hog roast sounds really nice, just a pity we dont live nearer.
Didnt manage any gardening today, just got to water the greenhouse plants.
                        Have a good evening all.

                        • Guys, if it's still here come hunting season (October), I'll let you know. Fingers crossed it's moved on by then.

Come to think of it, I wonder if scarecrows work on boar. Or would it just be another way of habituating it to humans and thus making it more vulnerable to hunters? No idea.

                          • Snoop if you are not allowed to shoot the hog till October invite Flow over with her spear, then as long as you invite the rest of us over for the roast, ci won't let on what you have done😁or of course you could try hanging up some CDs up to see if the flashing lights frighten it, if that doesn't work, play some of the modern music? CDs that would definitely move me on🙄😁, and bramble, you and me both, regards the wait.
Nicos meant to ask earlier, why do you put nettles into the freezer? 🤔Now off to read a book, so I wish you a goodnight 😊😊😊

                            • I’ll come and sing to the boar Snoop…that should scare it away! I freely admit that I couldn’t hit a true note if my life depended on it. Might scare the dogs away too though…and probably you!
                              Maybe not then

Rary - the frozen nettle tips will be used like spinach in soups, quiches etc later on in the year. They are better picked young apparently, Freezing them extends the time period over which we can use them. Very rich in minerals and vitamins

                              • Morning all.

No boar last night. Must have got wind of the various threats: hog roast, Flo's spear and Nicos's singing. Either that or it has found more oak trees with acorns about the place. We could very easily keep a pig, but it would become a pet. I can't see Mr Snoop turning it into dinner.

Low of 12 ºC in the night, and still 12 ºC now. Due to be very chilly for the next few nights, so Mr Snoop will be on tomato transport duty (they're in a large module tray) so they can sleep in luxury accommodation indoors.

On the cards for today: a very large amount of paid work. A day of tedium, then, but the bank manager will be happy, though, eventually.

Better get on with the show. Mr Snoop is on coffee duty this morning, so if you fancy one, put your hand up and wave so he can see you.

                                Have a great day, everyone.
