    • Morning all.

Got up a bit later than I expected (battery in the clock went on the blink, so the alarm didn't go off), so in a hurry to get bread and pud baked for lunch today. Sitting outdoors, sun not too hot, no rain. Nice company and they like the dogs, so we can take them too. The cook is a proper restaurant chef... Looks like we should be in for a good time.

After that the day is my own, which probably means a long eyelid inspection when we get home.

Have a great day everyone and enjoy the smiles.

      • Good morning sun is shining, so hopefully stays nice all day, taking a wee rest from any heavy work today, will head up the town for some messages then I will get the shrubs in the front garden trimmed, if I have time after that I will start clearing the flower beds at the back, the I can get the soil out of the veg beds moved, at the moment I only have one that I can use and it is planted with lettuce, leeks and cabbage, as for photos I didn't take any, as it's a thing I don't really bother with, in the past when I tried transferring them onto here I always got the message that it was too big to download and as I am not that good or bothered with these things I stopped trying, so sorry girls no photos, hope every one has a pleasant day

Thats a pity rary …never mind

Mrs Mop day again for me tomorrow but I hope to go out for a quick visit to a vide grenier in the afternoon if the rain holds off.

I nipped out before a threatened downpour earlier to collect more English marigold seeds and en route spotted more strawberries and raspberries- a decent bowlful!
I noticed a couple of my chilli plants are in flower again- as are the Runner beans. There are even small new beans on there ready for taking!… clearly that heatwave last week make all the difference!

              Anyone fancy a brew?

              • Good afternoon, thanks Nicos, just finished a brew.
Had to come indoors due to a shower.
However, got the laundry dry and now off to iron them.
Nicos, I could so e alpine strawberries yesterday and also some blossoms on.
                It's been strange weather.
                Have a good evening.

                • Mr Snoop tells me it's not polite to say "I'm stuffed". But I am. I've eaten more calories in a single meal than I've eaten all week. And that includes going round to a friend's for lunch on Tuesday. Definitely off for a lie-down now to recover.

                  • Afternoon all.

Chilling now after a morning of domestics and jamming. Out for a walk yesterday I found a dog rose with masses of big hips that were easy to pick, so as at this time of year I always go equipped to pick (i.e. plastic bags in pockets!), I picked nearly a kilo. Then further on, came across a wild apple, (not a crab, the small apples don't have that tongue curling dryness), and picked almost a kilo of them too. So today I've made wild apple jelly and rosehip syrup.

I tried chopping the hips in the processor, but they just pinged around inside, too hard I suppose. So I got out the faithful hand mincer, which was hard work but did the job. The end result won't last long, it makes a delicious long drink with still or carbonated water

                    • Good afternoon it turned into a nice sunny day, so after my visit to the town I started trimming my shrubs, as I don't have time to get stuff shredded I reluctantly decided to put it into the recycle bin once that was full I chopped up a barrow full of light branches from the small acer tree and mixed it in with my grass cuttings as I decided to get that done today, the forecast isn't that good so thought better get it done today, now that all that has been done I am going to take it easy for the rest of the day, well unless I decide to do something else I also added some water in which I had been steeping banana skins into the bin with the charcoal, don't know if it will add anything to it but definitely won't if not added, right going to start the tea then possibly a quiet night, so though kind of early I wish you all a goodnight ,

                      • That sounds interesting, mothhawk. We have a wild rose on our land and it is absolutely covered in hips. Each one small but they make up for it in number. I shall have a look at making syrup. Do you have a preferred recipe or any tips?

                        • I cut back loads of rose hips a month or so ago. I did feel at the time I should have frozen them for something.
I had rosehip syrup regularly as a child….strange how that’s passed by a couple of generations…. I wonder why?

                          • I remember being given a big spoonful of rosehip syrup regularly as a child and I hated it.

About 20 years ago I decided to have a go at making rosehip wine. It was one of only two wines I could not drink, the other was rhubarb.

I now leave them for the birds.

                            • Good morning, I remember collecting rosehips when at school, taking them to school you got something like 4d a pound, the school sold them for their funds, if you took them to the local chemist you got 6d a lb. Guess where I went
Rain overnight and the heating came on this morning, so think it will be a cold damp day today, going out to feed the birds the going to get ready for church, enjoy your day whatever the weather
