Actually, actually... to be fair to Mr GF... One of my brothers gave my mum a soup maker and I too thought it was a silly idea. In her case because she doesn't like soup. But to be fair, you can make soup in one almost at the drop of a hat. I was really impressed. The jug, when full, is very heavy, but if you eat a lot of soup, you can almost make it at the drop of a hat. Not practical for us, given that our electricity supply is solar only, but if we had mains electricity, I really would be sorely tempted. Makes for a lot less washing up too.

Good evening, we had a temperature of 11c but heavy rain, church this morning was a shared service with a neibouring church, the congregations will be amalgamating in the near future as their church is getting closed, sadly this is happening all over Scotland, with a lot of churches being closed, the church I attend is being kept open with the larger one getting shut, it's a beautiful big building with a lot of history, when the news that it was closing came out, a large number of local people objected and I think a petition was organised, but even if half the folk who were objecting attended church, it wouldn't be happening (rant finished)
Was out at the greenhouse for a time, just tidying up when son and DiL came in once they went home I decided to take it easy, was sitting reading when daughter phoned and said son was out clearing a culvert beside his house to try and avoid flooding, so went up to see if I could give him a hand, fortunately there were a number of his neighbours out helping clear a grid, which was blocked with various objects such as car bumper, car wheels with tyres, garden shrubs and of course poly bags along with telegraph poles and tree branches, as everyone was helping I decided it would be better that I kept out the road, I had been using a pronged hoe which when I stepped back a young man said he would use it and I could stand somewhere out the road, he stepped forward to where I had been standing and promptly fell in, he recond I set him up, but as I pointed out to him, experience has it's benifts, though he was soaking wet he did carry on with the work, with everyone working the grid was cleared, and of course once it was cleared the council workers turned up🙄. Now off to make the tea, have a pleasant evening, keep warm and dry and keep smiling🙂🙂🙂it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

A soup makers not for me I love the chopping and cooking adding different ingredients along the way. If it’s going to be a blended soup I use one of the pressure cookers otherwise it’s the slow cooker.
Each to their own though.
No decorations up here yet apart from a few cards on the mantle piece, will get around to it this week.Last edited by Bren In Pots; 17-12-2023, 05:29 PM.Location....East Midlands.

I've got a soup maker that I regularly used when I was working full time. You still have to peel and chop up, but then you can programme for chunky or smooth and you can choose your own ingredients. It's really quick too. I haven't used it since I've retired, but you've reminded me of it, so it might, unlike me, come out of retirement!Granny on the Game in Sheffield

Oh boy- you have reminded me of my first Xmas as a mommy.
Our daughter ‘bought’ OH a surprise Scalextric Set….it’s something OH had always wanted. I got a food processor I was absolutely deflated by that . Never used it. Still wouldn’t use one! Tbh - I’d have preferred a new vacuum cleaner…not really New wellies would have been more useful
I like my stick plunger for soups as I prefer the thicker, heavier soups.
We went and collected the holly today. A lot less berries compared to a few weeks ago, but enough to make me happy.
So, tomorrow, I’ll be doing the finishing touches of the greenery decorations and hanging the wreaths on the doors. Then it’s just a matter of buying fresh produce at the end of the week.
Rary - it’s always sad to see churches close - I’m not aware of any around here closing down, but they are very short of worshipers and the priests now cover several churches. There is one multifaith ‘church’ nearby which is doing pretty well though.
Looks like we’re in for a cold and cloudy day tomorrow. It’s already -2C. Such a contrast to the cold yet sunny past couple of days.
Keep warm and safe peeps….Covid safe too as I’ve noticed there are more people wearing masks again around here…is that the same near you?

Morning
Looks like being a good day here highs of 13c with a bit of afternoon drizzle.
Nicos I've noticed people wearing masks more these last couple of weeks, there's sanitation stations in shops but they don't seem to get much use. Masks are sometimes worn in the Doctors/dentist plus a few shops but not always so I still carry a couple with me when I go out.
enjoy your dayLocation....East Midlands.

Morning all.
Minus 6 ºC at the gate this morning, minus 10 ºC down in the fields, I imagine. Now eleven o'clock and the sun is bright, but still only plus 3 ºC. Feels very cold in the shade.
Plenty to keep my busy today but under control, just as I like it. Phew!
Have a great day, everyone.

Good morning all. It's very grey here this morning, but not too cold, 12°C.
I was very lucky to wake up when I did or I'd have ended up with not very nice bread. I always leave all the internal doors open at night but for some reason Mr GF shut the kitchen door at some point so I could not smell the bread and I could barely hear the timer beeping. The bread is cooling now.
This afternoon, if I can organise Mr GF and get him to agree, we'll go and visit his sister in the care home.
I also need to visit the garden centre this week to stock up on more bird food. I seem to have more blackbirds appearing daily. When I went a couple of weeks ago it was horrific. Full car park, the garden centre full of older ladies (probably my age) nattering and congregating in the aisles. Nobody actually buying anything but I couldn't get near the tills. I think they'd all been in the adjoining restaurant which admittedly is rather good. There were so many of them I expected to see a bus in the car park.
I'd better start writing my supermarket shopping list for tomorrow too as I don't intend going again before Christmas is over. Basically it's the same as normal but with extra cream, and I'm sure a few extra goodies will hijack my trolley. About 20 years ago I always used to make a quick supermarket trip on Christmas Eve afternoon and it would be dead but with assorted bargains among the empty shelves. I remember one year a supermarket assistant insisting I take a wheel of blue stilton that was going to be out of date after the holidays....no charge.

Mornin n’alln’all
So glad we kept the lounge fire in overnight! OH was up before me so it was lovely to go downstairs to the fire glowing and the Xmas tree lit whilst it was still pitch black outside! Very cosy
The final fix electrician was due today but has been held up - so it’s after New Year now. No big deal but it would have been nice to had the job completed.
Think I’ll make a trifle today- I’ve been fancying one for a while. I’ve already eaten enough chocolates and ginger biscuits over the past few days so I thought it’d make a refreshing change.
More indoor domestics for me - windows etc Watch it rain once I’ve done them!
Enjoy your day peeps- I spotted the smiles fly by not long ago…they were checking out my homemade wreaths No wonder they were giggling at my ‘BluePeter’ quality attempts"Nicos, Queen of Gooooogle" and... GYO's own Miss Marple

Good morning all.
Dry and dull but its 12 degs.
Unfortunately I have to go into town again for a few bits we overlooked.
Hopefully that will be the last trip before Christmas.
Have a good day all,
And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.
