As for outdoor loos, we have very primitive arrangements that I won't describe, otherwise there would be Eek emojis all over this thread! I can hear your imaginations going wild from here - no, not holes in the ground!

Snoop that part of your post reminded me of the dry closets that used to be used around this area, basically a brick outhouse built over a deep pit, sectioned off into cubicals with planks of wood positioned for a seat, the normal treatment was to scatter lime over everything in the pit, but occasionally some people got a bit of revenge on someone they might have had a disagreement with, by watching for them going to the closet wait a couple of minutes till the got comfortable then throw lighted paper into the pit, sounds bad but such actions seemed to lead to a harmonious neibourhood

Good evening, got up to a light covering of snow this morning, which did slowly disappear, went to church then once back home had lunch before going out to the garden where I did a wee bit of tidying up then checked out a small wood burner that I have wasn't going to use it in the greenhouse, but as electricity is quite expensive now, I am thinking of setting it up again, possibly a larger one would be better where I can keep it on overnight, will think on that, while outside our daughter came down to see if I can do anything with a cover she needs for a hottub, unable to patch it up but might see if I can feed polystyrene into it, it's a sectioned off envelope, would be quicker to stick the polystyrene onto it but doubt if it would last any length of time, another thing I will need to think on. Well of to make up a quiz for the garden club then plan a program for January which I am thinking will be on economical gardening, so any hints or tips would be most welcome enjoy what's left of the evening keep safe, keep smiling Goodnight

Morning all.

Up early to finish off some work. Supposedly. I'd much rather be here chatting, though.

Drizzling steadily outside, though we're actually forecast a bit of sunshine around midday. Hope it's bright at lunchtime. Had a delicious lunch yesterday up the valley, but conditions were miserable as we eat al fresco. Six-hours' worth of cooking (oxtail in a Roman style) and a good bottle of wine consumed in twenty minutes and then we were gone. They didn't want to hang around either, so it wasn't just us being anti-social.

Busy day ahead. Work for me and Mr Snoop off to pick up my latest flour delivery. Should be enough to see us right for a few months... Even Mr Snoop thinks I might have overdone it though, so I might have to placate him with pizza this weekend.

Quite a few smiles turned up yesterday evening looking very bedraggled. They've been telling each other all kinds of tales of flying this and falling that. I think they might want a bit of a rest and recuperation today before setting off again. Hope there are still plenty left with you from before the storm.

Morning all.

The garden thermometer is reading -2.8C so yesterday's snow is still here, and the sun turned all the clouds pale pink as it rose.
Our leisure centre and surrounding playing fields are still closed for the next "few weeks", and rather more worrying is that a drilling rig on Saturday drilled a verydeep hole in the middle of the road leading down to the centre. That's a good hundred yards away from the edge of the old landfill, and about 25 yards from our house.

A crisp snowy walk is on the cards today, then maybe some Christmas card writing

well thats the school run done ... well I had to get out of my nice warm bed to take Mrs G to work as she was worried about the roads ... not worried about me making two journeys in the conditions though obviosly

still I got breakers for myself and Miss G on the way back so not all doom and gloom. It was -1c when we left home and when we gor to Barbara's work it was .......... -2c

So im tucked up in my mancave now with a cofee

Its bright and sunny out, not been far only to the gate to collect milk next outdoor job is to brush snow from the satellite dish then sort out my brassica cage I've got 2 snapped canes.

Would rather be indoors though

Morning all. The roads here look positively lethal, covered in frozen snow. The temperature is still below zero and the car is a white blob. I'm hoping that it is going to warm up and slowly start to defrost. Fortunately there is nowhere I need to go in a hurry.

Nick the fact that Mrs G wasn't worried about you says a lot about what she thinks of your driving skills.

Rary, remind me to never use an outside loo in your neck of the woods!
I remember my grandad had an old coal/coke/multifuel burner a bit like a Rayburn, (and an old rocking chair) in his big greenhouse and it was such a warm comfortable place to play as a toddler and it meant we could escape from grandma. The smell of tomato plants is still one of my favourite ever smells.I don't think he was too worried about the price of coal/coke as he was a coalman and ex-miner and so he probably kept it warmer than the house. I'd love to know what he did with vast amounts of tomatoes that he grew. It's amazing to think that in the photo he would have been a lot younger than I am now.

Glad to see the snows all gone so i'll be able to get in the garden today, lots of twigs and branches to pick up.

Greenishfing we used to play in Dads greenhouse from what I remember it had a boiler room where our rabbits lived then fat pipes in the GH it was lovely and warm to play in.
