  • We are forecast 6C tonight Rary. Not much of a difference!
    Glad I have my HWB.
Gf…I’m wondering if the longer one loses its heat more quickly? And maybe the fact that it’s thinner makes it more comfy to snuggle onto?
( go on Rary…say it…..I know you are thinking it)

It was cold last night…guess what?….yup - we had our first frost
In the field and our cars only, but that’s really early for us!

        • Morning all.

Nicos, that's early for a first frost. Chilly here by our standards but nowhere near a frost.

It's been cloudy all morning so far, but the sun has just peeked through the clouds. Hunters out and about, so not much of a fun day for the dogs. Frankie out and about. Hope he knows to be afraid of the hunters' dogs. I'm pretty convinced he thinks he's a dog, he spends so much time with ours and tries to copy everything they do.

Got some paid work to do, then supper to cook for friend up the valley and his parents. Fingers crossed the weather stays reasonable and we can eat outside. If we can't, we'll ship food up to his place and eat there instead.

The smiles have only just left. They've been looking over my shoulder at the long hot water bottles online. Very intriguing. I like a traditional one for my feet, but I shall consult Mr Snoop. He might like one. Thanks for mentioning them. I remember buying my first hot water bottle in Barcelona. Couldn't find one anywhere. Eventually someone suggested an orthopaedic aids shop and we found one there. Out here in the sticks, I'd never find one even now except online.

Right, better get on with the show. Lots to do before I can go to bed again.

          Have a great day, everyone.

          • It’s no wonder I’ve had pretty rubbish crops this year…
Last frost was during the first week in June …first frost last night… that’s only 15 frost free weeks.

Throw in a few days of 41 C and plenty more in the mid 30’s , plus a drought…I think I’d done pretty well to have anything surviving that. Well, apart from nettles which seem to be thriving in the shady areas

            • Good morning. It went down to single figures last night but nothing like frost weather here. We did try out the long hot water bottles even though they weren't really a necessity. They were rather nice and I'm sure I'll appreciate them far more as it gets colder. I don't think they cool any faster than the standard ones and the do hold more water. I'm sure in the days of "ice on the inside of the bedroom windows" I'd have been ecstatic to have one. We must have been a hardy bunch in those days.

              • Good morning all and the sun is shining.
                Off to church shortly.
My grandson is coming for lunch.
We have been invited to dinner with our son and family.

Nicos thats extremely early for a first frost.
It's been a strange year weathereise.
                Have a good day all.

                • Morning

A mild night here GH temps back to 12c so i needn't have rushed to put the winter quilt on.

Slow cookers on and I've been out in the garden my french beans have about finished a bit of a disappointment really compared to other years.

                  Enjoy your day.

                  • Any French beans is an advance on here, Bren. I don't know anybody who's picked French beans this year here. The neighbour down the valley was telling me that she bought some in a shop the other day, same price per kilo as they are in winter and rubbery and rubbish to boot. It really has been a bad year. If we don't get a grip on climate change, every year will be like this and worse.

Mr GF is being more than "suitably" pampered. "Totally" or even "royally" pampered is probably a better description.

When the dentist theatrically produced and showed us the offending tooth he was still saying that the local anaesthetic wasn't working.

Hopefully he will have no further problems with it.

He has enjoyed his evening meal and and not asked for any painkillers so I presume he will feel like a human again tomorrow.

I have just wound him up by saying that as he didn't get the offending tooth back he won't get "sixpence" from the tooth fairy.

Sorry I couldn't help myself...... Maybe I'll sneak something nice under his pillow.....any thoughts?

                        • A nice couple of hours at the allotment. I gave the Bay tree a mini haircut as I wanted to dry some more leaves for my niece and my hairdresser. You can't even see I've touched it. It is bigger than me. I also did a last picking of the year of sage for my sister to dry above her Aga. My sister came over and we picked bags and bags of apples. I have also texted allotment neighbours I haven't seen and told them to help themselves. The Bramley tree that had one lone, out of reach, apple last year is practically breaking branches with the weight of fruit. The eating apple trees are are also groaning under the weight of fruit.

I need to cut mine back too gf. I cut it back in the spring too and tried to get some to root but none of them took. The rosemary clippings did , so I don’t know what I did wrong with them.

Cold but sunny here - but no frost.
                            I’m thinking of blackberrying today.
I just need to be around at lunchtime for someone to collect some willow cuttings.

I’ll do a catch up on the funeral later.

Speaking of bobble hats…I think its time to root out my thermals again ( steady on there boys!)

Time for a brew don’t ya think?
