  • Isn't the trick to toss the fruit in a bit of flour to stop it sinking Lottie?

    • Good evening all. We are back home from our holiday and I cannot believe how early it got dark. I know Spain is just one hour hedbutit suremks difference.
I used to make my Christms cake very year and ice it but dont any more nobody seems to bother with.
Changing the subject,I couldn't believe the the variety of flowers that are still blooming in my garden. Dahlias, Rudbeckia, Nasturtiums, Verbena, Marigolds, a few Rose's and a few sweetpeas. I also picked about a dozen Sungold tomatoes in the greenhouse.
Lots of tidying and cleaning up in the garden tomorrow..hoping it's a dry day.
      Have a good evening all.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

          • Welcome back bramble!…I’m also still amazed at my nasturtiums and geraniums!
My rosemary has just come into flower- it clearly hasn’t got a clue which season we”re in!

            • Welcome back, Bramble. I hope the sunshine has followed you.

My Christmas cactus has got a mind of it's own and the first flower is just opening. It sits on my kitchen windowsill and obviously thrives on neglect.

Bren. You have just mentioned yet another of my weak spots ......carrot cake! A good, moist, gooey one takes a lot of beating but some commercial ones are a real let down.

I must have done a fair amount of cleaning today as my fingertips ended up all corrugated, a bit like the beach at Blackpool. I hate wearing gloves though. The only time I wear them is when handling raw chicken. After a bad bout of campylobacter a good few years ago I am so careful. Never again if I can avoid it.

My Christmas cactus is 40 year old and hasn't flowered for the last 5, not sure why its always been in the same place. I re-potted it earlier this year so hopefully it will start to flower again.

                    • Good morning all.

It's grey and miserable here, but not quite foggy. This seems to be the default forecast at the moment.

Bren, at forty years old how large is your cactus? Maybe break a few bits off and start a new one. I used to put the one I had before this outside in the Summer, which it seemed to like, until one Autumn I forgot to bring it back inside.😥 My current cactus came from bits I managed to salvage from that one!

I'm going round to my brother in law's later to take him some bits of shopping. His cleaner does his main shop for him and he gets his lunches delivered hot daily from a local meals on wheels type service. I think I'll take him a banana loaf out of the freezer too.

In this miserable weather I seem to fancy cakes and puddings a lot more. I'm thinking of making one of my (and Mr GF's) all-time
favourites this weekend....... lemon meringue pie. I can practically taste it just thinking about it. .... Sweet and tangy and melt in the mouth. Drool! Drool! I sometimes find it hard to believe that when I left home I couldn't even boil an egg.

                      • Good morning all..Its dull and grey but its mild.
The garden is full of leaves and the greenhouses to be sorted.
The suitcases are full of clothes waiting to br rehomed.
I can see busy day ahead.
                        Have a good dat all.

I completely forgot about my Christmas cactus until I went into the sitting room last night and it's a mass of blossom.

                            • Afternoon all.

Very quick drop-in to say hello. Bright here today but it was a cold night. Mr Snoop has fixed up the range chimney so we're good to go for heat tonight! What with that and a fire in the bedroom, we'll be proper toasty.

The temporary kitchen is coming along and cake is on the cards for this weekend. And about time too. And biscuits for long overdue gifts.

Have a great rest of the day, everyone.

Had a good shop - got everything I needed…but all this talk of cake…I went and bought some profiteroles. Oh no…not just any old ones either!…turns out they contain booze
So what shall I do with 8 boozy profiteroles folks?…..
