  • Morning,

Hope all is well. Sorry to hear about your friend bramble. It's such a horrible disease. The sun is shining here and I can't get to the plot until the weekend. Got offered a new job end of September and we have just had problems with my references but hopefully it's sorted today and I can start my job this week. I have come out of working in care and now going into admin.

Hope you all have a good day
    Carrie

      • I eventually got round to making the fruit cake for my hairdresser. It has just come out of the oven. I thought it would be ready just by experience of this particular recipe and tin. Having read the article by Nancy Birtwhistle about Christmas cake, where she said the internal temperature should be between 97°C and 99°C, I decided to test it with my brand new temperature probe. I stuck it straight into the centre of the cake, about halfway down. The digital readout was 98°C, and the probe came out clean. Nice to have confirmation.

          • Good evening all. Thank you all for your kind sympathies for my friend...Her name is Joan.
Since Joan was diagnosed she went down hill rapidly and barely recognized us today.

All this talk about baking cakes..I might lookout my recipes soon.
I also want to make some soup and jams as the two freezers are full.
Lots to do and the days are flying by.
            Have a good evenig all.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

              • Mornin n’alln’all
Been awake for a while. I actually had a decent few hours…then popped to the loo and realised it was only 1/2 hr before my phone alarm was due to go off..so decided to read.
Then I noticed my phone alarm hadn’t gone off
Then realised my pesky clock had jumped forwards an hour. (It does it a few times each year of its own accord)
So I’ve just missed out on a potential hour and a half’s sleep. Flippin typical

Oh well, I’m bright and breezy this morning and happy to see there wasn’t a frost last night. There wasn’t one forecast but it was mighty chilly when I went to bed. Looks like we had a bit of rain instead.
Today is the day the geraniums are going into the barn for the winter.Pity though cos they are looking stunning, with plenty more flower heads to open.

More sewing and raking of leaves for me today.
Our friend is coming over again to make another custom fit door….three down, two to go….

Enjoy your day peeps - whatever you get up to!

                  • Morning all.

Lovely flowers, Nicos. Such a jolly sight. No wonder you don't want to put them away for the winter.

Clouds building up. Looks like we're set for another storm. Big, but not as bad as the last one. And a lot of our provisions for the last one are still in place. Only difference is that the ground is still saturated. Looks like we'll be bailing the corral out again...

Other than that, all good. Had a lovely day yesterday, including a small firewood delivery just to tide us over. Brilliant. Olive and almond, so smells lovely when burning and gives such a good long heat. Baked the aubergine parmigiana in the little range yesterday. First bake of the season. Won't have time for bread today but definitely tomorrow.

                    Have a great day, everyone.

Those geraniums are pretty Nicos it must be tempting to keep them around for longer.

Fingers crossed the storm passes without any damage Snoop.

                      enjoy your day

                      • Good morning all.

Those flowers look really great, Nicos, and a lovely dark red. How awful having to put them away, but better than losing them to the frost.

I've just had an email from the makers of my slow cooker. A while ago I looked online to see if they had a spare dish for it and their website said they were out of stock, but if I left my email address they would contact me when they got them back in stock. Evidently they are now back in stock and I have ordered one. It's nice to find something I can actually get spares for, rather than built-in obsolescence.

I'm in the middle of writing a shopping list at the moment as I'm planning a grory hop today or tomorrow. I also got an email from Nectar. A big supermarket have got full legs of lamb at half price with the nectar card. Far too big for us, but I'm just wondering if it's worth buying one, butchering it into two and freezing half.

                        Time for more coffee.....

                            • Good afternoon all. I had no time to check in this morning.
Went line dancing and did a grory shop on the way home.

Nicos, beautiful geraniums and a lovely colour.
Some of mine are still flowering but I put them in the greenhouse.

Snoop, I hope the storm is not too severe, especially after the devastation last week.
                              Have a good afternoon all.
