  • Good night all. No snow here, but it hasn't stopped raining all day and it's still falling.
Sorry to hear you had an ear infection Lottiel very painful.
GF, I know what you mean about struggling with the fitted sheets, plenty of strength needed.
I must dig out some of my old recipes, I used to bake regularly when my children were younger,
Stay warm all and have a good night.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

More sewing again for me today.
OH’s friend is coming again to help a bit more with the doors. Last one almost finished, but the frames now need altering as bought doors are 8mm thicker so there needs to be a rim to close onto. ( thought you’d find that interesting) Then of course the frames will need painting, and the wooden doors sealing. Looking brill though already!

Lottie- how is the pain today? Sorry you’ve had to go through that.
I used to get it in one ear when I went swimming- having to duck under the lane ropes. (And we’re talking just pre Covid pandemic…not years ago when I was a kid!)There used to be an old school life guard who worked there- he used to blow a whistle if he spotted anyone doing anything wrong ( mostly children) but he had a keen eye making sure people didn’t roll over the lane barriers instead of ducking underneath. The number of times he blew his whistle at me was embarrassing I had to wait at the far end of the pool and sneakily roll over whilst he was busy telling some child off. ‘Shouty whistle Man’ was his secret nickname!
Once I stopped doing that they never returned….but the pain…..aaahhh….you very much have my sympathy xxx Hope it goes quickly xx

Keep warm…And please, no slipping over for those of you with snow and ice. It might be entertaining for the smiles to watch, but bruises etc take a long while to heal

      Have a great day peeps…

          • Morning all.

No slippy-sliding on the snow, guys. An inch is plenty enough water to drown yourself in, according to the headmaster at my junior school, so I dread to think what an inch of snow could do.

As for sheets, we're still on the old fashioned flat ones. Sounds like they're probably easier to fit than fitted ones! Mr Snoop likes buying linens at the fairs they have here and we have some amazing sheets, goodness knows how many decades old. Lovely to sleep on.

Off to the dentist today. With any luck I'll be on easy street today. No jabs or drills, just a bit of hammering and gluing. Makes me sound like one of your doors, Nicos.

Better get a move on. I like to give myself a good spit and polish for the dentist seeing as she's stuck so close to my head! Grory shop afterwards and then it'll be head down in the freezers in town, trying to sort out what needs eating first and whether I can find enough random duck bits to make a pâté or pie this Christmas.

            Have a great day, everyone.

It's snowing here, but in a genteel way, everywhere was white first thing, but only the roofs and cars now so it must have warmed up a bit. It's very rare that we get snow to settle and stay even for one day, so no doubt it will turn to rain soon

Have a good day all, and keep warm .

I'm just getting over a sprained ankle Snoop so I'll be staying indoors MrPots is on shopping and snow clearing.

Flat sheets that's something I'd not thought about for ages, I'll have a browse and see what there is. Thanks.

                  • Good morning all.

The temperature has crept up to 1°C and everything is thawing well. The roads are clear. We are even predicted sunny spells for later. We probably only got about 2½ inches of snow in total. However I'll lay odds that lots of schools have closed. I remember walking to school in the Winter of 1963 and the snow came over the top of my boots! A local farmer had icicles about 4 feet long hanging from the roof of his barn. He eventually snapped them off before they broke and hit anyone underneath on the pavement on the head.

I took my long hot water bottle to bed last night for the first time this Winter and fell asleep cuddling it. When I woke up at 4am I got up and refilled it. I would guess that I managed a rare 8 hours sleep in total. When I change the bed, I think I'll move on to the brushed cotton duvet set and maybe even the winter weight quilt. I have a four Seasons set, a lightweight quilt, a medium weight and they clip together to make a winter weight one.

I find that the main problem with flat sheets is that they tend to be a bit on the small size if you've got a deep modern mattress. I know when I left home one of my grans gave me some lovely quality brand new (in their packets) white cotton/linen sheets. She gave them to me as she said I was the only one of her grandchildren who would appreciate them and would be bothered ironing them......I have got lazy over the years since then. They were wedding presents from the 1920s and she'd put them away and "kept them for best". Unfortunately they wore out years ago now. I do remember refusing to have the disgusting bri-nylon sheets on my bed in the 60s/70s. As I was the "slave" who did all the ironing for the family (of seven) from about age ten I got away with not having them.

I might do a grory hop today or tomorrow, especially if the sun appears.

Bren, look after your ankle. How did you injure it?

Lottie, I'm glad you're feeling a bit better.

Take care out and about all.
