  • Good morning all. The sun is shining and its 0 degs after a very frosty start.
I need to go to the florists this morning and then a visit to my sister.

Snoop, the smiles paid a visit here this morning but didnt stay long as they had a busy day ahead.

Enjoy the day and wrap up well if you're going outdoors.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

    • Just popped in to wish you all a Happy New Year.
I am still cancer free, but in and out of hospital more often than I would like. Still gardening, the Mammoth Red Onions are simmering in the heated propagator and plans are afoot for the coming growing season.

Very pleased to hear you are cancer free, but not so much to hear about your repeated trips to hospital. Hope it’s all sorted/ under control soon.

                • Thanks for the good wishes all, hope all are well, two days before Xmas and a trip an ambulance to the local hospital with suspected sepsis, turned out to be high temperature from a nasty virus, ok now. Apparently the wife said Saturday night in A&E does not count as a date night and I owe her a meal out lol.

I think you both deserve a rather special night out after that!

                    • Glad you're feeling better now, Burnie. Treat yourselves to a proper date night to celebrate.

It's still very cold here. I'm going to have to give in and defrost the car myself shortly as the weather isn't doing it for me.

I've just changed our bed and I am now sweating. It is so much harder in Winter. Thicker quilt, heavier brushed cotton cover. Just so big, heavy, and bulky. Yet so much better than blankets and candlewick bedspreads I remember from childhood. Time to get the vac out next. ... After Mr GF has finished eating his fruitcake and cheese, as no doubt some crumbs from it will join the rest.

We now, apparently, have a 90% chance of snow on Saturday night. Roll on Spring......

                      • Well I've just defrosted the car. The first problem was the drivers door was frozen shut and would not let me in. I did get in through the passenger door and climbed across, put the blower on and defrosted the screen. I eventually remembered what someone had told me to do to free the driver's door last year. I mountaineered my way out and "gently" thumped the edges of the door all the way round to try and break the ice seal. Eventually I got in. I then had a mini brainwave. In one of the storage compartments was a little tin of vaseline (lip balm). I put it there last Winter. I have now smeared it thinly over the rubber seal in the hope of it not freezing tonight.

I'd just come back indoors when my brother in law rang to say he was going out with a friend.....so I didn't need to go out anyway.

                        • Crumbs, burnie. That must have been very scary. A&E is no place to be, especially on a Saturday night just before Christmas. Hope you have a much better date night than that!

                          • Good evening all.

Burning. So lovely to see you back on here. Sorry to hear about your health issues. May 2025 be a better year for you.

Just back from a visit to my sister...it was horrendous driving with the sun so low in the sky...totally blinded by it. I will time it better on my next visit.
The temp is really falling so wrap up well if you're going outdoors.
